The Association runs courses for
umpires and scorers during the winter months, in order for members to become
qualified and more competent at the job they carry out. These are in addition
to our monthly winter meetings.
Courses are generally held at Shaw's
Bridge Sports Association, Belfast and all use up-to-date technology and traditional training
aids.
The following courses will be
starting from January 2007. If you are interested in attending one of these
courses you are invited to send us an email with your name and address
indicating the course in which you are interested.
Umpires
and Scorers Club Roadshow (1 evening)
Any club can ask us to run a 3 hour
roadshow at their own club in which we deal with the basics of umpiring and
the Laws of Cricket. This course is
suitable for players, scorers, new umpires, regular and not-so-regular club
and school umpires, for PE teacher training students and those doing a sports
degree. A short multiple choice test
is taken at the end of the evening, marked immediately and certificates
issued to successful candidates. This
course is FREE!
Umpires
and Scorers Training Course (10 evenings from January to March)
This course is for new umpires who
wish to become qualified and for those who wish to move on to a higher level
of qualification than at present. It
is also suitable for players who have to umpire their own matches or for
coaches who umpire school or underage matches. Scorers are also encouraged to attend to
learn more about the laws, as the Standard Scorers Examination is 50% laws
and 50% scoring. Finally, it is a very
useful refresher course for more experienced umpires who have not been to a
training course recently. This course
costs just £5 for 10 weeks.
Scorers' Refresher Course (1 Sunday in March from 10 - 4)
For those who would like to gain
Standard Scorer status. This course is suitable for those who have attended
the 10 week training course above and now need specific final training to
pass the Standard Scorers Examination.
In addition it covers the basics of linear scoring. There is no charge for this course!
