This recipe was given to me by a friend many years ago.  It was the cookie recipe that she most often made for church functions and everyone loved it.

Brown Sugar Squares

1/2 cup butter

1 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1 cup flour (plus one tablespoon)

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Grease and flour an 8" X 8" pan. Mix all ingredients in large bowl and turn into pan. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until done.
