over 500 visitors a month to this site...so dont't forget to visit the Original A is For Autism Site
When my child was first diagnosed with Autism my wife and I were under the assumption that there would be this mass of helpful persons who would show us what to do. After all, autism was not a "new" disability. Most certainly the schools would have programs to help our child , and teach us what we needed to know. Then the true reality hit us. There was help for our daughter, but we had to go out and find it. Schools did have programs available to them for children with autism, but they would not necessarily make those available to us. And the most crushing thing was that society was not so accepting of our child as we were. Our child would be spoken of in third party ways, as though she, the individual, did not exist. We, as a family, would be shown to be unwelcome guests in even the most "family friendly " places. It was because of these things that I decided to become the most informed person on autism and disability rights I could. I soon had A is for Autism web site up and running , and in two years had over 9,000 visitors and many hundreds of e-mails to answer monthly. I moved the site to another server in 1999 and once again found many thousands of new friends. Many of these visitors were from around the world, where they desperately needed information on autism . Many parents from the United States shared with me their own heartache and frustration when trying to get school based services for their children with autism , as well as other disabilities. That is why I now offer to share with others the stratagies, abilities and knowledge I have gained and used successfully for my child and other families. For information about my family and my daughter, Leslie, who has autism, visit the Link above called "About Us". This is a link to the information that was originally part of A is for Autism web site. You will also find there information about techniques and stratagies we have used for our daughter. Please note that this is a separate site from the one you are on now and has no link back. Either book mark this page or use your browsers "back" button or "history" trail. copyright > NicholasC.
