Akira was born in 1943 in Shimamaki Village, Shimamaki-Gun, Hokkaido. Masako's father, Masuo Nosaka, was also born in the same Shimamaki Village. Akira had the same "Roots" as Masako!
But that's not all. His family is deeply related to Nikken himself. As we wrote in Chapter 2 of other book, "Great Scandals of High Priest Nikken" there was a "Red-Light" district near Sanmon gate of Taisekiji. It was called "Hotel Miyuki" and was the place for Nichiren Shoshu priests to enjoy sex. Around 1932, 60th High Priest Nikkai requested an imperial carpenter in Fukushima Prefecture named Risaburo Tanihira to rebuild the Sanmon gate. Tanihira accompanied his wife, Su-e, who was sexy and coquettish, just like a Geisha girl.
Nikkai fell in love with her. After the Sanmon gate was completed, Nikkai asked Tanihira to rebuild "Ren-yo-an" which had been destroyed by fire two years ago. This was completed and Nikkai used it for his retirement residence with Myoshu-Ama. (Nikkai retired from High Priest in 1935, and married with Myoshu-Ama, a Nichiren Shoshu Nun and his long-time mistress, in 1936.) Nikkai must have wanted to hold Su-e in the Taisekiji area. Now, Nikkai asked Tanihira to build a "love hotel" near this area for Taisekiji priests!
Perhaps, Nikkai's real intension was to have a love hotel where he himself could use to see Su-e. Around 1938, Tanihira built a love hotel, "Fuyoso," with an anex which Tanihira used as his own residence. Several prostitutes came from Fujinomiya City, and were hanging around in front of the Fuyoso with a sexy outlook. It was not the place where pure and naïve farmers could walk by.
Since this hotel was planned by ex-High Priest Nikkai, and since Nikkai himself frequently appeared here, Fuyoso became very popupar among Nichiren Shoshu priests, especially, Hogen Takano, Hoki Chiba, and Nikken Abe (later became 67th High Priest).
Between Risaburo and Su-e, there was a daughter named Hisako Tanihira who is one year younger than Nikken. Nikken and Hisako had a relationship, and a rumor says that Hisako's first daughter is one of Nikken's hidden children. Hisako was learning flower arrangement under Myoshu-Ama (Nikken's mother) at Fuyoso.
In 1941, WWII broke out. Taisekiji cooperated the Japanese militaristic government. Mr. Makiguchi and Mr. Toda were arrested.......The storm went through Taisekiji.
Myoshu-Ama suggested Nikken to marry with Masako Nosaka, who was her distant relative and was living with her as a maid (See Chanpter 14 of Great Scandals of High Priest Nikken ). Their marriage was held at "Fuyoso." Shortly after, Nikken was drafted to Navy.
In 1945, the war ended with a surrender of Japan. Drafted young priests came back. The relationship between Nikken and Hisako recovered. Although Hisako had been married with Mr.S, and had 3 children, S was hardly seen in Fuyoso. Eventually, Hisako divorced him in March 1953. Until 1965, Hisako had been running Fuyoso by herself, and had raised all children. While Nikken was a chief priest of Hongyoji in Tokyo and Heianji in Kyoto, he used to stop by at Fuyoso to see Hisako when he came to Taisekiji for Tozan.
Hisako is not the only girl friends of Nikken. After WWII, Nikken met his old lover, Ms. T. Kawada, a daughter of Renjo-bo, and used to have a date with her using this "Fuyoso." (Concerning Nikken's hidden child between Miss Kawada, see Chapter 8 of Great Scandals of High Priest Nikken ).
Time went on. It happened that Hisako's daughter fell in love with her class mate, Akira Takeuchi, at a college in Tokyo. They graduated in 1965, and married in 1966. Akira first worked for Tokyu Express Railway, and then for Japan Management Association. Subsequently, he found job in Daiei Movie company, but quit and came back to Ueno village. They opened a coffee shop, "Fujinoya" inside Taisekiji. Their son once entered into priesthood and began his new life at Hongyoji under Nikken, but soon quit the priesthood and was helping the coffee store in Taisekiji.
In June 1976, Akira Takeuchi became the adopted son for Hisako Tanihira, and changed his name to Akira Tanihira.
There is a rumor that, around that time, Nikken had another love relationship with a daughter of Ryosho-bo, and used Fuyoso for dating.
Indeed, Fuyoso, which was owned by Tanihira family, had witnesses many complicated human relationship surrounding Nikkai and Nikken. This is the key to understand the strong tie between Nikken and Akira Tanihira.
