Nichiren Shoshu High Priest Nikken and His Inner Circle

3(A) How Did Akio Nosaka become a Financial Consultant Without the Qualification

From a book, "Great Evil Acts of Nikken's Inner Circle" (p 79-88)

Testimony by Mrs. Yoko Koitabashi of Noanji reads, “Mr. Akio Nosaka had helped accounting of Noanji for more than 10 years. I know that he is also doing the accounting for Nishikata Tokyo Office (which is the Nikken’s Tokyo Office and which is the place where Mrs. Masako Abe lives with several maid-trainees). Sometime he was called from Masako and rushed to the Nishikata Office. Akio told me once that he stayed overnight to examine the finance books. He also told me that Nikken took good care of him and they often go together to an ultra expensive restaurant “Kiccho” in Tokyo.”

Among several Nikken’s innner circle members who all take advantage of their position and vigorously make a profit for their own pocket, there is one exception, who is modest, nervous and timid. That’s Akio Nosaka, younger brother of Masako Abe, Nikken's wife.

Most likely, Nikken chose him as his financial consultant exactly because Akio is “modest, nervous and timid.” Never-the-less, as soon as Akio joins the Nikken’s inner circle, suddenly he became rich!

Why all members of the inner circle can become rich?

Here is a testimony from a priest: “When I was looking for someone who could help the accounting of my temple, Rev. Eijun Ishii told me that I should ask Mr. Akio Nosaka.” (Eijun Ishii is the elder brother of Shinryo Ishii, the financial administrator for Nikken. Probably Eijun wanted to show off his loyality to Nikken. Or, Masako was making an arrangement so that the accounting of all temples would be examined by Akio.)

The priest continued: “When Mr. Nosaka came, the charge was 100,000 Yen. When he comes, he stays overnight, which cost the temple more money. We are doing it simply because Akio is the brother-in-law of Nikken.”

Soon the pay increased to 150,000 Yen, and is now 200,000 Yen. At the beginning, Akio was overseeing about 10 temples, but now he sees all wealthy, “First-Class” temples in Nichiren Shoshu. Consequently, Nosaka expanded his house, started driving a gorgeous car and wearing expensive suits.

He is also a talkative person. He explains that he often goes to an ultra expensive restaurant, such as “Kiccho” with Nikken. Well, after hearing this, the priest could no longer take Akio to a cheap restaurant. Akio is a smart accountant, because he utilizes the names of both Nikken and Masako to raise his “values.”

This priest was shocked, surprised and amazed when he learned that Akio is not a certified accountant. But it was too late! How could he refuse a brother-in-law of High Priest Nikken! Since ever Akio started consulting temples’ accounting, all financial information of each temple is directly become known to Masako.

How much Gokuyo was collected in monthly Oko meeting? How much Gokuyo was collected in New Year, Oeshiki, and other ceremonies? How much profit was made from writing Toba? How much expense was spent for acolytes and employees? And so on. Originally, all temples were categorized into 20 classes based upon their share expenses for Taisekiji. It was originally designed to help low-income temples. But after Nikken became High Priest, he increased it to 31 classes, and all temple’s financial condition has been closely controlled.

Now, things are getting tougher from 1994 on. Now, Head temple Taisekiji closely monitor the amount of savings of each temple. Not only that, the system of sales, such as books, sutra books and Kako-cho (calendar book of ancestor’s date of passing and their post-humous names), which have been sold by each temples and the temples were able to make profit, has been changed. Now, these items are sold by the price decided by Taisekiji, and temples cannot make profit any longer. In other words, Taisekiji wants to collects ALL PROFITS!! Nikken’s desire for money is getting greedier and greedier! Thus, Akio Nosaka is becoming an important member of his inner circle.

Several priests raised touchy questions concerning Akio. A priest said, “There are something fishy about Akio. One heard that Akio is a graduate of Meiji University, but others heard that Akio is a graduate of Nippon University. Akio talked here that his ancestor was a chief retainer of a prestigious Samurai family, but to others, he explained that it was a small fisher man.”

Akio himself said to one person that he was working as a salary-man for an import-export company, but to others, he said that he was a financial consultant.

What is his “Roots?” (continued to 3B)
