2003 Nihilism Caledar
Celebrates Science

What is the greatest accomplishment of human kind? It is science, of course. Because of science, humanity has gained knowledge, hunger is unnecessary, war is more efficient, and disease in more political. Some even say that science has made religion and tribalism obsolete. That is why this year the Nihilist Academy has chosen to celebrate Science in the 2003 Nihilism Calendar.

Featured in the all new 2003 Nihilism Calendar are all the gruesome, violent and just plain funny events that shock us every day in the newspaper. The Nihilism Calendar combines irreverent humor, grotesque and curious dates of significance, demented press clippings and peculiar snapshots, all of which celebrate reality as nihilists like to see it. This year, don't miss out on the Nihilist fun.

This calendar is part of Elisha Shapiro's ongoing conceptual art exploration of Nihilism. Shapiro, a Los Angeles-based conceptual artist, is known for his 1984 Nihilist Olympics, his 1988 Nihilist Party Presidential campaign, and his monthly cable TV show, Nihilists' Corner.

Elisha Shapiro began publishing his Nihilism Calendar in 1980. For many years it was only available in a few Los Angeles bookstores and galleries. It was sought after by many who appreciated Shapiro's unusual work. It is also directly from the Nihilist Press by mailing $10.95 to PO Box 36422, Los Angeles, CA 90036.

A spokesperson for the Nihilist Press explains, "Nothing says progress like science, and the 2003 Nihilism calendar. And the self-immolation of humanity without the Nihilism Calendar seems like no fun at all. In such interesting times, this is the kind of amusment we can count on. And it makes a lovely Christmas gift."

The 2003 Nihilism Calendar includes over 800 dates of nihilist significance. Here are just a few:
