Newark's Barringer Flag
Carried by the 1st NJ Militia in 1861
This New Jersey Treasure is currently being restored by NJCWHA.
In 1861, young women from Barringer High raised money to have this National Flag made and carried into war by the 1st NJ Militia. After the Civil War, it hung in the school. NJCWHA is raising funds to preserve the flag and return it back to the Newark Board of Education for proper display and appreciation.
