Parveen Shakir was undoubtedly the most popular Urdu poetess
of modern times. Urdu poetry lost her in the prime of her life following a tragic accident
in 1994.
Parveen achieved fame while still a student of English literature at the University of
Karachi and continued to write prolifically even after joining Civil Service. Khushboo,
her first collection of poetry, won praise from all quarters and established Parveen as an
iconoclast whose art knew no inhibitions.
