SAHIR LUDHYANVI Few film poets in the subcontinent can claim to have
such popularity and following across the border as did Sahir. His songs from the movies of
fifties, sixities and seventies have never lost their appeal. His more serious poetry is
both revolutionary and romantic. Ali Sardar Jafri in his introdcution to Sahir's long
poem, "Parchaian" wrote that Sahir's success as a poet lies in the fact that he
described some of the stark realities of this period of history in such simple words and
verses that not only influence the senses of his audience but also become common place
expressions.
