WALI DECCANI

Wali is one of the earliest Urdu poets. At one time he was considered the first Urdu poet with a "Diwan". It, however, goes to his credit that he elevated Urdu gazal to the same level of popularity as its Persian counterpart in the Indian subcontinent. His gazals incorporated the classic style and content, both romantic and mystic, of Persian poetry.
