The Occupation of Highway 55
That's what the sign said but some
Twin City activists had another thing in mind.
With the destruction of homes in the corridor of the Highway 55 expansion slated
to begin the week of August 10th, 1998 dedicated environmentalist, members of
Big Woods Earth First!
and members of the Mendota
Mdewakanton Dakota community began the occupation of some of the
condemned property. These web pages are my account of the amazing transformation
of Riverview Road, between 53rd and 54th streets in Minneapolis, into a community
of resistance, solidarity and spiritual strength.
The pictures are further down in the calendar format. Last month is now listed first.

RELATED ITEMS AND ARCHIVED STUFF
The content in these pages does not represent the ideals, musings, pondering, thoughts, beliefs or ranting of any organization or individual involved in the action other than myself, Tom Taylor, unless otherwise noted.
If you would like any background information on what this is all about including what you can do to help stop the reroute, visit the Stop the Reroute web site, that is linked to numerous times from this site.
There is also a web page dealing with the Sacred Sites of the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota, including affidavits of Gary Cavender and Chris Leith, elders of the Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota community, to the U.S. District Court. I have linked to this web site numerous times as well through out my site.
(Rob's web site should be back up now) Rob Callahan's web page about the Highway 55 reroute that is also linked to numerous times from this site is back up and and rockin' the boat in his radical red way.
Further down the page is a calendar format that has links to images taken on those days. THANKS for your involvement!
Stop the Reroute plans to hold meetings every Monday ("until the road is stopped") at 6:30 p.m. at the Gathering Grounds Coffee House on 50th St. and 34th Ave. So. in Minneapolis.
