Kensington Condo Development

Artist Rendering
An artists rendering of the project shows two of the three proposed buildings
During the summer of 2006, while staying in a campground, we began to look at properties in the Boone area. (That's what most RVers do when they find a place they like.)

After having realtors show us a number of houses and cabins, we got a listing for a new condo project that was very close to the Greenway Trail.

When we first went to see it, one of the three proposed buildings had a completed exterior but the inside was still unfinished. Construction on the other two buildings had not yet begun.

Norm got all enthused about the prospect of living right next to the Greenway and within walking distance of everything in downtown Boone.

We visited the condo a number of times, spoke with the developer and the project manager, and even got a contract proposal for making the purchase.

Norm was ready to go ahead, but the night before he was going to sign the contract, he got "Runaway Bride Syndrome" and changed his mind (with no objection from Frieda).

When we returned in May of 2007, Norm went back to the condo again and this time it was complete and you could see exactly what you were getting.

This time, we made an offer, went ahead with the purchase, and began settling into our new Mountain Home.

Our Condo Unit
This is our unit.
We're on the second floor - right side.

Low Income Housing
Material, equipment, workers, and money
is all it takes to slap one of these things together.
Everything was peaceful and quiet during the summer of 2007. We suspected that the slump in the housing market might be a factor, but in September there was a stir of activity.

Loads of building material were brought in and then a crew of framers began putting up the bottom level of the next unit.

These hombres worked really fast. A crane moved the material into place and they used power hammers to nail the boards together.

We noticed that before they left in the afternoon, they hoisted their equipment trailer way up off the ground and we figured out that was to keep their stuff from being stolen at night.

By the end of the second week, the framing for the first two floors had been completed. This photo was taken on Saturday so no work was being done.

In looking around the layout, We were glad that we won't be in this new building. It is close to the road which will mean more traffic noise. Their parking area will be on a slope, and there is a set of power lines right outside the windows on the north side.

The association bylaws stipulate that residents of the development must be 55 or over so this should insure that everyone will be mature and well behaved. This, of course, rules out college students from ASU who tore down the goal posts at their own football stadium after the Mountaineers defeated the University of Michigan.

Second Floor and Going Up

Framed
Can you visualize how this will look
when it's finished?
It was very interesting to go inside the building under construction and remember what our's was like when we first viewed it. The two views are of the living area with its large window facing the rear and the door to the outside to the left rear.

On the right is our living area after we finally got some furniture to make it a living room.

Finished
Norm is trying to learn how to
place visual images on his website.

We will have to put up with all the construction activity, noise, and dirt for at least six months,
and when the second building is finished, it will be time to start the third.
