NPD Bicycle Patrol Unit
The bicycle patrol unit was established to provide another avenue of responding to the community's needs . The main reason for moving the officer from the patrol car to the bicycle was to allow the officers the time and opportunity to work with the community and to have it become more involved with law enforcement as part of the department's community policing program. Because the knowledge that the Bicycle Patrol officers will have of the neighborhood and the people who live there, they can be the catalyst to develop creative solutions to problems that do not focus exclusively on arrest.

With the snow finally receding, the mountain bike unit will again be patrolling Mines Falls Park and the rest of the City beginning in early April.

Members of the bike unit have attended several Police Mountain Bike competitions.

In the 1998 Yankee Candle Challenge, nine officers attended. Usurping the reign of the Massachusetts State Police, Nashua riders came in first place team, other trophies NPD brought home were:
  • First Place in the rookie division .
  • First Place, 19-29 age category
  • Second Place, rookie division.
  • Second  Place, 30-40 age category.
