Lily won a Grammy award ( for Best Comedy Album ) from NARAS for her 1971 album called "This is a Recording". The album also went gold. Lily has also been nominated for the Best Comedy Album Grammy Award three other times.
In 1977 Lily was given a special Tony Award for her work in her one-woman Broadway production of Appearing Nightly.
The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe, written for Tomlin by long-time collaborator Jane Wagner, won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play, the Drama Desk Award, and the Outer Circle Critic's Award.
Robert Altman's Nashville, generted an Oscar nomination and a Best Supporting Actress from the New York Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics.

The November 1973 broadcast of her second T.V. special, Lily, was the first to actually win Lily an Emmy Award. Actually, I take that back... Lily won two Emmys for that special, one for Best Writing for a comedy, varity, or music special and the other was for Best comedy, varity, or music special. Aired on CBS.
Her next Emmy Award came for the next special, Lily Tomlin, which aired on July 25, 1975. This won for Best writing for a comedy, varity, or music special. Aired on ABC.
Lily was one of the writers on The Paul Simon Special which was broadcast on December 8, 1977 and won another Emmy for Best writing for a comedy, variety, or music special. Aired on NBC.
Next was Lily: Sold Out which won the Best comedy, variety, or music special for the 1980-1981 T.V. season.
Most recently Tomlin was awarded a Daytime Emmy for her performance as Ms. Frizzle, teacher extraordinaire on the Magic School Bus.
