A modern-day comedy about three female office workers in a giant corporation who are subjected to the indignity of a chauvinist boss. They entertain wild fantasies of revenge and "get even" through a series of outrageous incidents. Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Song ("Nine to Five").

A dying spinster tries to get a second chance at life by having her soul transported into the body of another woman. Her plan goes awry when her soul takes over the right side of a wacky male lawyer.


And the Band Played On (1993)

The movie based on the book by author Randy Shilts that brought the A.I.D.S. epidemic to the public's attention and chronicled the political neglect this devestating disease faced at its onset. Shilts later died of complications brought on by A.I.D.S.


The Beverly Hillbillies (1993)

Jed Clampett and kin move from Arkansas to Beverly Hills when he becomes a billionaire, after an oil strike. The country folk are very naive with regard to life in the big city, so when Jed starts a search for a new wife there are inevitably plenty of takers and con artists ready to make a fast buck.

Two sets of twins are mixed up at birth. One set becomes the chief executives of a huge Manhattan conglomerate, while the other set succeeds at becoming poor country bumpkins. They all accidentally meet up at New York's plaza hotel and quickly become comically mixed up.


Blue in the Face (1995)

An improvised film that picks up where the movie "Smoke" trailed off. Neighborhood characters wafting in and out of Auggie Wren's Brooklyn cigar shop are captured in ten-minute impromptu takes, including Lily Tomlin as a hairy-chested Waffle Man and Lou Reed as the voice of gritty wisdom gluing together the Hockneyesque collage of author Paul Auster's beloved borough.


The Celluloid Closet (1996)

Lily Tomlin narrates this in-depth examination of the film industry's portrayal of homosexual characters throughout history. This fascinating documentary points out not only where and how such characters appear, but also where and how they've been avoided. Interviewees include Susan Sarandon, Tony Curtis, Shirley MacLaine and Tom Hanks, among others. Based on the 1981 book by Vito Russo.

A studio script screener gets on the bad side of a writer by not accepting his script. The writer is sending him threatening postcards. This plot is written on a backdrop of sleazy Hollywood deals and several subplots involving the politics of the industry.

This show popularized a rapid style of vignette comedy show where comedy sketches, punch-lines and gags are edited together in a rapid and almost random format. Regular trademark elements included the joke wall, the dancing woman tattooed with one-liners and the fickle finger of fate award. This series would inspire such shows as Monty Python's Flying Circus and Sesame Street.
