What does the term "holistic" mean?

We must learn to look beyond our own backyard…..

More discussions have centered around holism and spiritualism than ever before.  Even Oprah Winfrey has
integrated a portion of her program related to "spirit" issues.

"Holistic", or wholistic as it is sometimes spelled, is a term to describe any therapy which concerns healing of the body, mind and spirit.  It is based on the premise that we are "whole" people.  What affects one part affects the whole.

"Spirit" refers to our ethereal self.  We easily understand our body and our mind.  The discussion of spirit tends to lead to much confusion.  It relates to our "life force" our internal "sense of self".  It does not require affiliation with an organized religion although it often does.

I would urge anyone interested in
self-improvement to avail themselves to the many books written recently on these topics.

I would appreciate any titles of books that you have found particularly helpful in your spiritual journey.

Holism:  the view that an integrated whole has a reality independent of and greater than the sum of its parts." (B. Dossey, 1997)
