These two views contrast the changes in the amount of light from the winter solstice to the summer solstice. The left picture is the winter solstice (December 21) at 1:00 p.m. On the right is the same view photographed at the same time of day but on the summer solstice (June 21)

Not only do the shapes of the shadows change, but the amount of ambient light in the whole landscape is vastly curtailed in the winter picture. |
