These are some photographs I took while flying at Zahns. They are all from the last couple of years before the airport closed, from about 1978-1979.
Taking of from Zahns.
This is just after take-off heading north. In view is a hangar on the east side
of the airport.
When you took off to the north at Zahns, immediately after crossing the airport boundary you had to turn left. Here you see the reason why. Just to the north of the field was Republic Airport. The Zahns traffic pattern fit between the approaches of Republic's Runway 1 (to the left) and Runway 32 (to the right).

A view of Zahns Airport from the South. You're
looking at its north-south runway in the center of the photo.
Republic airport is the light grassy area visible just behind it.
Long Island Sound is the blue at the horizon.
A Piper Cherokee 140 parked on the ramp at
Amityville Flying Service. This is the type of plane I took most of my flying
lessons in.
Aircraft parked on the west side of
Zahns Airport. Note the
Ercoupe airplanes in the foreground.
