Sample Size and Condition

Diffusion Laboratory can analyze a wide range of sample sizes that will accommodate most of the items that you will find in a lithic assemblage. The limit on small samples is 0.4 grams or a small thinning flake. For samples smaller than this it may not be possible to complete all the analytical steps. The optimal sample is a 9mm diameter nearly flat flake or fragment. The upper size limit is about 8 grams and larger artifacts may need to be sampled by cutting off a section.

Please inspect your samples for evidence of burning, abrasion or corrosion. If you are not sure of sample condition the staff at Diffusion Laboratory can provide you with an assessment at no charge.
