Mumbo Jumbo

This song was written in 1975 as a tribute to the early rock and roll mind set. It's also a travelogue through some of the towns and places where rock and roll was born, nurtured, and ultimately given birth. This song was included on the album, ROCKABILLY MUSIC AND BRAKEJOBS, by Alan Leatherwood; Ohio Moon#777

by Alan Leatherwood

(INTRO)

A poor man's got his music, a rich man's got the gold,

A train won't wait, but your true love always will.

The train rolls on forever, your true love fades away,

You think about it all when the night is long and still.......

(first verse)

I'm gonna move like midnight madness

and motor psycho to Mobile,

I'm gonna head on back to the bayou where I come from.

I got a French Cajun Woman, feeds me crawfish pie,

and gumbo from the pan,

I'll be rollin' in her arms when the moon is on the rise.

(second verse)

I'm gonna do some levy walkin'

with my baby by the hand,

Gonna shoot my gun across the Delta dawn.

And then I'll head on out to Texas

and do another gig with the band,

As I listen to the waves crash the walls of Galveston.

(first chorus)

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

mumble to the sea

As I listen to the waves forever roll.

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

Wash all over me,

So I can take you with me when go

(third verse)

I'm gonna ride that road to reason,

I'm gonna live out all my dreams,

I got a good guitar, and it's lightning in my hands.

I'm gonna live a little bit, and live and let live,

I can't change what has to be,

and the one who will, will gather up

every grain of sand.

(fourth verse)

I'm gonna go and catch the "Fatman"

when I get to New Orleans,

He'll be jamming down on Bourbon,

"When the Saints Go Marchin' in",

Or I might wind up in MEMPHIS,

the cradle of Rock and Roll,

I'll do a little wheelie down at 706 UNION!

(second chorus)

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo

Rumble all night long,

Listen to the waves forever roll,

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

with a rockabilly song,

That music with a beat works in the soul

(third chorus)

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

All around the world,

Rock and Roll is really all they play,

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

All you boys and girls,

Get on board, and we'll all fly away

(fifth verse)

I've been here before as a weapon of war,

I ain't never gonna fight again,

I'm getting ready for the BIG one,

Here comes the night.

The mark of the beast is being released,

It's on everybody's door,

Don'cha listen to the lies

Anybody's gonna try to sell you

(fourth chorus)

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo

Humble to the Lord,

I wonder where I lost my self control

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

Send down Your swift sword,

Cut me out, so I'll be free to roll

(fifth chorus)

Mumbo Jumbo, Mumbo Jumbo,

Spinnin' on the mountaintop,

You oughta see your crazy partner dig for gold

Mumbo Jumbo Mumbo Jumbo,

Gonna preach it until I drop,

That music with a beat works in the soul
