The ROVer can enter a tank through a 24 inch manway
and self erect at the push of a button. It is fully hydraulic
powered
and has Zone 1 Lights and camera on board. The
cutter attachment on the front can deal with the most difficult
sludges
with ease in conjunction with the onboard helical
screw pump and the onboard cannon. The cannon can be used to wash the tank
down after the sludge is removed or can be used to dilute.
The ROVer system is built into a 20 foot container
with a control room in one end and hydraulic and power systems at
the other All functions of the machine can be controlled
by one operator , operations can be recorded on video for client.
Described as Key-Hole Sludgery by one oil major,
ROVer
350 can be inserted into a full
Crude
Oil Tank without Man
Entry.
Unique in the field, this full scale hydraulic ROV can be driven through
a 24 manway without the need for dismantling and re assembly.
On board camera and lighting allows the Robot Pilot to operate
ROVer 350
from the comfort and safety of his control console cockpit at
the tank side.
Via the umbilical hook up, ROVer
350 is operated over a computer grid
simulation of the tank floor layout plan to ensure all areas are visited.
On-board Camera allows manipulation of
ROVer
350 around obstructions and video
recording can give advance warning of mechanical failure of tank internal
fittings.
High Hazard Operations a Specific Target.
The applications for ROVer 350 are innumerable
since it can be fitted with virtually any conceivable hydraulic recovery
device.

2 Technical Specifications
1. Most other systems require some degree of man entry to install the machine,
this is not necessary with the ROVer
2. The heavier deposits can be removed by suction before dilution and washing
giving a reduction in the amount of diluent required for the job.
3. Because of the CCTV systems it is possible to monitor progress at all
times preventing the duplication of effort which occurs when working blind
with re-suspension systems.
4. Both the de-sludging and final washing stages of the tank cleaning procedure
can be carried out concurrently without having to change equipment or re-rig.
5. Manpower requirements are minimal.
6. 24 hour working is possible and effective due to lack of operator fatigue.
7. From arriving on site to starting operations the time is reduced due to
the modular nature of the system.
8. Site contamination is reduced because there is no entry or egress from
the tank during cleaning operations.
9. Release of VOC's to atmosphere can be controlled more readily over
conventional methods because the tank can be re-sealed after entry of the
machine.
10. It is possible to carry out operations on tanks having a live purge (using
an insertion chamber)

In the USA it is common practice to jet crude oil tanks using a light end product i.e. gas oil, this practice is however not normally accepted in Europe unless the tank was placed under an inert gas purge
Although it is often possible to clean tanks faster by using the Sit and Ride MOVer this increase in speed is often negated due to the 24-hour capabilities of the ROVer 350 system. And in all cases the risks present with manned entry methods are removed.
