The Suncoast Sailing Campaign is a Tornado Catamaran Sailing Team competing to represent the United States at the 2000 Summer Game, in Sydney Australia. The team is ranked #1 in the USA for the 1998 and 1999 sailing season and is the lead member of the US Sailing Team.
The Team consists of Skipper Robbie Daniel, Crew Jacques Bernier, Coach Jim Young or Sailcoach and team Coordinator Jill Nickerson.
Robbie Daniel is a 36 year old who has been racing catamarans since the age of 12, and currently resides in Clearwater, Florida. Robbie is employed at Home Depot through the Home Depot Olympic Job Opportunity program.
Jacques Bernier is a 27 year old who has been sailing for the past 18 years and currently resides in Clearwater with Robbie and Jill. In addition to Jacques accomplishments with the team, he also has many wins to his own credit as a skipper on his Hobie 20 and a variety of monohulls.
Coach Jim Young has been the teams coach since 1995 and comes to the team with an incredible amount of knowledge and direct experience as a Tornado sailor, a USYRU Senior Judge and extensive US, as well as international coaching, and head coaching experience in the Olympic forum, as well as several Olympic medals to his credit.
Jill Nickerson has an extensive background in catamaran racing as well as making a career in marketing and advertising. Jill does all of the teams coordination, sponsorship, public relations and marketing, as well as acts as an alternative crew for the team.
For the past 4 years, with their coach, the team have soared to 1st in the nation and is a member of the US Sailing Team.
