Can Massage benefit me?

Massage provides relief to people from all walks of life. The weekend or competitive athlete, the home gardener, the over stressed executive struggling to keep pace in today's economy, secretaries, laborers, waitresses- any active person will feel the need for massage at some point in time. The older population, as well, will benefit from massage, as it enhances flexibility and circulation. There are some conditions where massage is not recommended, however. Your therapist should ask for information regarding any health conditions from which you may be suffering in order to determine if massage, bodywork, or somatic therapies are contraindicated. In some cases, the therapist may need you doctor's permission before providing services.

Betty G. Norris, a graduate of the Alabama School of Massage Therapy in Birmingham, Al., is Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork by the NCBTMB® ( # 04436-0) and is certified in Neuromuscular Therapy, Swedish Massage, and Nuat Thai® as well as trained in Trigger Point therapy, Shiatsu and Sports Message. She is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (# 45823), and International Thai Therapist Association.

Will My Insurance Cover Massage or Bodywork Services?

If you are in a car accident or have a job-related injury covered by workmen's compensation, insurance may cover massage when prescribed by a physician. If your insurance covers chiropractic or osteopathic services, the services of a massage therapies practitioner may be covered when prescribed by a chiropractor or osteopath. Massage therapies provided as part of the prescribed treatment by a physician or registered physical therapist is often covered. Check with your insurance company to be certain.
