It is my hope that you will enjoy these pages of "homespun" sayings, remembrances and love....from me to you! Just like mom's homecooking....take what you need for this moment and then come back for seconds. Love and God's Peace, Patti

Rememberings

Some memories offer a cooling respite from the heat of the present. Take off your shoes, sit back and relax while I remember trivia from the early 50's through the early 60's when life was easy and we were young and oh so innocent.

Milk was delivered to your door back then. Remember milkboxes?

Coonskin hats and toy Bowie Knives

Our dolls were "Tiny Tears and Betsy Wetsey. Oh, goodness, can't forget Thumbalina

Every Friday families gathered in front of the TV to watch "I Remember Mama" and on Sundays to watch "The Ted Mack Talent Hour" and "The Ed Sullivan Show"

Schools held Ice Cream Socials and ballet classes

Every student pledged allegence to the flag after morning prayers were said

Fire drills and hiding under our coats in the hallways during air raid drills

Ordering groceries over the phone and having them delivered

Ramblers, Corvairs, Studebakers and of course the Edsel

Snow forts, Skippy the ice cream man, baseball cards stuck to bike spokes with clothes pins, clothes pin bags, Downtown shopping, sock hops, corner drug store sundaes and floats, real Christmas trees, real chocolate, clamdiggers, Redball Jets and Keds sneakers, Chemistry sets, Lionel train sets, Tinker Toys, Erector sets, Woodburning sets, poodle skirts, page boy hairdos, brush cuts, Mousetrap shoes for boys, penny loafers with knee socks. Rollerskates with skate keys....that I always lost!

I Love Lucy, Father Knows Best, Ozzie and Harriet, Fibber McGee and Molly, Lassie and Jeff, The Life of Riley,  Jim Bowie, Cochise, Wagon Train, My Friend Flicka, The Lone Ranger, Fury, Gunsmoke, The Mickey Mouse Club, The Gail Storm Show, The Early Show, Firestone Theater, Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Twilight Zone, Hallmark Hall of Fame, Omnibus, The Kraft Hour and Christmas shows galore All TV stations stopped programming after 11pm. Remember the big round multi-colored target on the screen and that piercing sound that signaled the end of all programs for the day?

They were days of laughter, days of trust and morals. Churches were filled with whole generations of families and neighbors. Drug abuse and murders were far from becoming an everyday happening. Children were safe. We were taught to love, trust and obey God and to Honor thy Father and thy Mother....and we did. Remember? Can you almost feel those days? I can.

Just for today

Smile...for no reason

Give more & take less

Be a friend to someone who
has none

Reach out to someone in pain

Listen

Pray..always..in all ways..at
all times

Give up the past

Don't obsess about tomorrow
....it's not ours yet

Hug, hug, hug and then hug
again

Walk barefoot in the grass

Count your blessings....slowly

Really look at nature

Don't be afraid to say "I love
you"
