THE OPTARTS STORY (this is the one and only picture of all four Optarts. it didn't come out too good, but it's still one to be cherished) Optarts. The band. The music. The stupidity. The rediculousness.
The story. The experience. The Shriners. The Police Square Club. The OddCrew.
Here we go. The Optarts started way back in 1996. The two original members are Ziggy and Dean out of Parsippany NJ. They threw together some notes from the keyboard and some beats on the drums and came up with the blueprint of the soon to be hit, "Heartbeat Lane". Then bassist/guitarist Ryan teamed up with Jay who played rythm guitar to join the Optarts. They wrote such songs as "Citro", and "Sloppy Mueller", with the help of Kevin, Eric. Kevin then joined the Optarts as a kazoo player and Eric did backing vocals on a few songs. When football season began, Ryan and Eric left the band leaving Jay on guitar all alone. The band slowed down over the summer of 96 but soon got going again when school began. Kevin began playing bass so the Optarts were now a 4 piece. After about a year of existence, the Optarts now have about 15 of their own songs along with a few cheesy covers. They were planning on recording a 7" with the help of master bassist Don. The Optarts got to play a few shows. Two in Ziggy's garage, and one in Parkers backyard. A school function brought Ziggy, Dean and Kevin to start a side band called 7-6-1 Trifecta. This band included master guitarest Luke, trumpet genius Matt, and on trumbone Pauline, who doesn't get an adjective cuz I'm a nice guy. As time went on, Trifecta practices came more and more, and Optarts practices came less and less. Eventually Optarts were no more. While Kevin, Dean, and Ziggy are still around in the band 7-6-1 Trifecta, no one really knows what happened to Jay. Some say he just walks the earth, looking for adventure. Some say he's gone to join a hardcore band. Most just don't know what happened. But there's one thing we do know, it's that he's alive and kickin'. He's somewhere working on his 'zine "Politically Erect". At least we can take peace in that. Well, they may be gone in reality, but may the Optarts live forever in our hearts. don't forget to give generously when the Shriners and Police Square Club come calling on your phone.
