PHONETIC VERSIONS. You may or may not know that Stan and Ollie made some of their early talkies in several languages. These versions are often longer than the English speaking originals. I personally find them fascinating. In fact several are included on the fantastic new Universal set: NEW 21 DVD SET ORDERING(BRITAIN ONLY)
DOUBLE WHOOPEE: In 1969 this film received the distinction of being the first silent film in history to be dubbed into sound, including voice synchronisation. Chuck McCann, who is a superb Oliver Hardy impersonator and voice mimic provided both of the voices(Stan & Ollie). The late Al Kilgore wrote the script and directed the dubbing. This version has been released by THE HAL ROACH STUDIOS in the USA on VHS and DVD as part of the 'Laurel and Hardy and Friends' compilation. It is out on the new Hal Roach DVD releases in the USA.
