This museum is again well worth a visit. Situated in the market town of Ulverston in Cumbria. It was a labour of love for the late Bill Cubin . Bills daughter Marion is now the curator. Everything you want to know about Laurel and Hardy is here. This museum contains an amazing variety of memorabilia, believed to be the largest in the world, including letters, photographs, personal items and furniture. A large extension opened in 1992 gives you ample room to browse. There is also a small cinema showing free films and documentaries all day. Disabled persons have full access. Well worth a visit-fun for all the family.

You can also visit the house where Stan was born , located in Argyle Street. And on the way visit the Stan Laurel Inn for refreshments.  Ulverston is located in the beautiful Lake district of Cumbria. You could also extend your visit and take in the Lakes and perhaps visit 'THE CARS OF THE STARS MUSEUM' located in Keswick. There you will find an original Hal Roach Model T Ford complete with 'Laurel and Hardy' figures .Click on this link and it will take you to a map of  ULVERSTON with hotel information and local information.

THE ROMNEY HYTHE & DYMCHURCH RAILWAY

RHDRThis is the Worlds smallest public Railway. It is 14 miles long and is situated on the Romney Marsh in Kent. It is sign posted from the M20 Motorway . At New Romney station there is a large model railway and cafe. What is the L&H connection? Well , Laurel & Hardy re-opened this line after the War in 1947. They travelled the line pulled by a loco called DR SYN. You can still see this loco today working this famous line. Photos of the opening are in the exhibition at New Romney.

You can also see footage of the opening on Newsreels. A few years ago the SAGA MAGAZINE ran a feature on (the late)Peter Elkins and myself (Rob Lewis). We were pleased to hear from a Mr Tony Baker who read the magazine. Tony actually drove DR SYN the loco that pulled the 'Boys' in 1947. Tony appeared in the Movietone Newsreels and is seen in this photograph swapping hats with Oliver Hardy. The Helpmates have organised three special events on this railway in the past, so we are pleased to be able to help Roger Robinson (SAPS AT SEA TENT) organise another Laurel and Hardy Special train. Go here for even more information and THEN & NOW photographs of the event:
