GOAT DRIVING

Goat Driving

Since I have a pet goat and also like to drive, I have taken an interest in goat driving. I have started collecting some old photos. It was very popular in the 1930s to have your kid photographed in a goat cart. Someday I will have my own driving goat. Unfortunately Gretchen is too small.

Studebaker manufactured a small wagon in the early 1900s called the Studebaker Jr. I believe that both of the above wagons are Studebaker Juniors. The one on the right certainly is. Studebaker went on to build cars until the early 1960s.

Here is a selection of two wheel goat carts. One is made to look like a racing sulky, one looks kind of like a gig and the other looks like a road cart. These are three very handsome goats.

Below is a photo from St. Augustine. This post card is dated 1906. This goat does not look as well cared for as his U.S. counterparts. The harness design is much simpler also.

A page on goats would not be complete without these:

Shirley Temple with her goat!

Goats are smart and can be very creative
