Little Singing Woman's
First Pouch

When my Daughter was a very small girl she wanted
a pouch of her own to carry "her" special items in.
As I drove the highways back and forth to work each
day, I enjoyed the wild Buffalo Clover and Thistle
which grew along the road.  I chose the Thistle as the
design for the beadwork for her first pouch because
to me it said:  "I am tenacious; I grow here along the
highway against all odds.  I am undaunted by the
tractor's blade, which seeks to eliminate me.  I do not
let the hardships of this life spoil my beauty or keep
me from sharing it with those who look upon me.  I
grow strong and healthy, returning each year bigger
and better than the last. "
Good traits for Thistle... and Daughters.  :)

This small pouch is expandable and held
many of her "treasures".  The straps
act as drawstrings, knotted in the front
under the flap and woven through holes
along the sides of the "gusset" leather,
extending out the back of the pouch.

The beadwork was an experiment in
design; choosing the rosette method
done on a separate piece of leather,
then mounting it from the back through
a hole cut in the flap and stitching around
it.  It proved to be sturdy enough for her to
carry  the pouch for several years.
