Treasure Necklace

Treasure Necklace

A flurry of color and texture, this piece is truly
a treasure!  A fascinating collection of beads,
fetishes, silver and charms make up this one
of a kind necklace.

Looking for a way to bring new life into old
pieces?  This is a great solution.  Over the
years I have collected items which I enjoyed
but which seemed to find their way to the
bottom of my jewelry box.  Wanting to find a
way to breath new life into these wonderful
items, I decided to try my hand at making
the Treasure Necklace.  This is not a new
idea, and has been made in varying styles
for generations.  This type of necklace
can be made in one, two,...or, for the truly
daring, three row styles.  Be aware that the
weight increases considerably with each row.

This closeup shows the featured centerpieces
I chose for this necklace.  The silver and
turquoise piece is from New Mexico's Indian
Market.  I liked the blend of green and blue
in the turquoise... sort of a dawn/dusk feel.

The lower centerpiece is polished mammoth
ivory mounted in a silver rope setting.  While
I never wore it as an individual piece, I liked
the focus it brought to this necklace.

The four fetishes seen are made from black
jet, two shades of pipe stone and turquoise.
Silver from Thailand and Bali were used along
with the silver Navajo bench beads.

constructed to enhance the flow of color
and design of the overall piece.

This particular necklace features a
variety of animal fetishes and uses
primarily turquoise and coral colors.

The true joy is in making it a personal
statement.  Bits and pieces of the
wearer's life are brought together to form
a wonderfully whimsical piece.

I enjoy "visiting" with each of the small
trinkets each time I wear this Treasured
Necklace. :)
