SUBJECT: Letter of Commendation
19 October 1970
Specialist
Four Stanley E. Suit
United States Army Support Group
Joint Security Area
APO 96224
I wish to take this opportunity to commend you for your actions in face of the
enemy on 9 October 1970. It is often difficult if not impossible to perform
effectively when greatly outnumbered by enemy forces. Your actions during the
unprovoked attack by North Korean guards and workers in the Joint Security Area,
and your willingness to engage the enemy under existing conditions, indicate
that your courage and dedication to the principles of freedom are beyond
reproach.
Your commendable performance under extreme stress contributed greatly in
preventing serious bodily harm to members of your platoon. Through your complete
loyalty to the policies and procedures of this unit, you have earned the highest
respect of the Officers and NCO’s of the United States Army Support Group,
Joint Security Area.
Your display of courage and willingness to follow orders continues to be a barrier to communist encroachment and another example that the U.S. Army is dedicated to preserving freedom in the Republic of Korea
A copy of this letter will be placed in your official 201 File.
