USS HANCOCK CV-19 I.D. 'Inny' Cerbini - Age 17

WELCOME TO MY HOMEPAGE!
This is the I. D. 'Inny' Cerbini
USS Hancock CV-19 Memorial Homepage

Inny - Age 72
Hello Shipmates...

My name is I. D. 'Inny' Cerbini, Fireman 2nd Class, USNR. I enlisted on my 17th birthday and was assigned to the U.S.S. Hancock CV-19. I Served aboard her 1944 to wars end, in A and B Divisions (Engineering Divisions).

You may wonder how I got my name 'Inny'. I have gone by that name since a young sailor in the Navy back in 1944. Why?  Because most people either

slaughtered my real name or made fun of it. Most people with different sort of names have experienced the same as I did. I am sure some of you can relate to that and can understand what I mean. So this is why I chose to continue using my nickname, 'Inny' and grew to like it, and it stuck. I hope you like it too.

My Online Life

After 53 years I finally found the Hancock Association. I Had given up on ever finding her. One of my sons found the Association and Emailed my daughter who lives with us.This was November,1998 and from then on I have been on the computer with a passion.  She served our nation with honor until 1976 when she was scrapped.

I found the greatest site for the Hancock on Jakes Yankee Station - Hancock Memorial.

When you are done with your visit here, please make sure you make a Port Call at Jake's 'Yankee Station' - USS Hancock Memorial, and learn more about the great ship which I served in. To go there, click on this Banner...

"I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not go fast, for I intend to go in Harms way"

John Paul Jones, Capt. Continental Navy

"And do not think of these ships as the Navy. The ships alone are masses of inert matter; they are of themselves powerless. The thing that makes the ships alive, the thing that makes them turn to the right and to the left, and take part in maneuvers, and fire their guns, is the spirit of man. It is the spirit of man that designs and makes and vivifies the ships.  The Navy is not composed of ships: the Navy is composed of men.  The ships are the tools they use."

The U.S. Navy by E. Muller Jr., Rand McNally & Co., New York 1917
