The purpose of this section is to highlight some
particular aspect of the wonderful world of aromatic traditions which exist
in India. The individual aromatic plants themselves present a rich resource
to build around and many of the stories presented here will concern flowers
such as parijat(Nycanthes arbortristis), champa(Michelia champaca), kewda(Pandanus
odoratissimus), khus(Vetiveria zizaniodes), kamal(Nelumbo nucifera), and
kadam(Anthocephalus cadamba).
Along with the stories of individual plants other topics
will be taken up like the use of garlands, incense, cosmetics, and perfumes
in Indian tradition. Gradually I hope to build a unique collection of information
that will provide a stepping stone for others to do deeper research on the
presented subjects. I hope that those who access this page will be kind
enough to correspond with me and help me build a center where new information
about India's aromatic traditions can be spread. |
