My parents purchased this truck new off a show room floor in Southern California with 381 miles on it.  As my father remembers it, "According to the salesman, who you can always believe, this is the truck which was used in the beginning of  Hooper the movie.  If you remember, during the first few minutes of the show, there is a pickup going backwards down the road and Burt Reynolds is transferring beer and women from the pickup to the SSII.  The dealer claimed it was used in the movie, but I didn't know what  Hooper was as it hadn't been released yet, as of the time I bought the truck. The timing is exactly right, as we bought the truck early in 1978, the movie was released in the spring of 1978, but obviously it was filmed during the year of 1977 when the truck was newly delivered to the dealer. Also, it had 381 miles on it when I bought it and finally, I had a little transmission trouble with it that they worked on during warranty. After the warranty ran out, the tranny began serious acting up, and I called the dealer about it. He put me in touch with the district manager who investigated and when he got back to me he just told me that they would take care of it, even though the warranty was out. They must have known something like: it was used in some manner before it was sold to me maybe(?)."

My parents drove this truck until about 1989 when the tranny went out due to a swimming trip in the Mojave River.  I will try to get some pictures of that and post them as well.

The truck sat for a year before I took it off their hands and rejuvinated it.  That meant chasing out the spiders, sweeping out the leaves, and scraping off the mildew, moss, and mold that had grown.  I dropped the tranny out and had it rebuilt, did the brakes, tune up, new battery and Whalla -  It fired right up.What you see is what was left.  That is the original body, the original paint, except for the left front corner which my father used to can open a pinto wagon.  Another good story to tell a bit later.

I have tried to keep the truck stock as much as possible.  I had to add the 2" trailmaster to restore the truck to stock height.  My old springs had sagged till my axle housing was only about 1/2" away from the bump stop in the front of the truck.
