| 5/22/04 SAAS Mutates!
|
| SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: As announced at the last SAAS barbecue, SAAS has mutated into a different kind of club. As there is no longer any place for us to meet that is in our price range and available for the marathon meetings we are used to, and as the officers of the club can no longer afford either the money or the time to continue the club in its old form, SAAS has altered into something else. Also, due to the increasing availability of anime, on DVD, Cartoon Network and via online services like BitTorrent and Kazaa, the original purpose of the club is now obsolete. We are indeed living in the future. However, there is one thing the club provided to all of us- a social outlet and a chance to meet like-minded people and make friends. All of us at the club have forged lasting friendships with others we met via SAAS, and that is something we're not willing to let go. Anime nerds like us still need a way to meet, a place to chat about stuff, and a way to hook up socially. Thus, SAAS is mutating to fit this bill. Through monthly (or sometimes even twice monthly) events, which will be announced here and on the message board, we'll have various barbecues, Sunday Dinners at local restaurants and buffets, movie meetups to see anime, animated or geek movies on the big screen, and the occasional party at the homes of people crazy--ahem-- GENEROUS enough to offer to host. As always, SAAS events are for people who are into anime, manga, HK films, Asian pop culture, j-pop, j-rock, comics, video games, "furry", animation, sci-fi, and cartoons. All are welcome to attend any event we announce here, as long as they can follow directions. (That means you have to pay your own way if the event costs money...) Welcome to the new era of SAAS. I hope you'll all enjoy it. Got news or an event to announce? Let me know via the message board! |

| 12/27/03 SAAS Sunday Dinner!
|
| SAD NEWS FOR SAAS! Due to the new apartment management at the Mark at Parliament, we can no longer use their party room. Since they decided to "remodel" it and didn't bother to let us know well enough in advance, there was no way we could get a new room space in time for a December meeting (plans are in the works for a new place for January, watch this space for news). GOOD NEWS FOR SAAS! We're having a "SAAS SUNDAY DINNER" on December 28th, starting at 5:00 pm! It will be held at the Hometown Buffet near the CineMark theatre, so bring money if you want to eat! We'll eat, do the annual Expired Library Tape Dispersion (where we pass out the now-licensed library tapes in a completely random fashion to all SAAS peeps present), chat and generally hang out! Come on down and partake of the mass quantities of food! News of Note: Having trouble finding your fave translated manga? Check Borders and Barnes & Noble in San Antonio as both now have large graphic novel sections, and they also rack shoujo manga in with the young adult/teen books! Still can't find what you're looking for? Try Austin Books up in Austin- they stock deep and carry everything, including obscure titles! In other news, Tokyo Godfathers is up for an Oscar in the animated film categories! And if you haven't seen it yet, the Nightmare Before Christmas exhibit is still on display at the McNay Museum! Got news for this section? Let me know via the message board! |

| 10/11/03 Meeting News!
|
| Last meeting was the usual batch of fun! In addition to the regular scheduled programs, we also showed Married at 20 1, Ikki Tousen 3-4 (thanks to Pat D. and Chris L.!) and Daimos 3-4, a classic 70s anime, dubbed in the Phillipines (thanks to James H. for bringing that piece of insanity)! Thanks to everyone who brought their video game systems for all to play, and thanks also to Chris L. for bringing the big giant TV! Be sure to show for next meeting, since we will be having our traditional Halloween Candy-Madness, and cosplaying is encouraged! Feel free to put together a costume from either anime, video games or cartoons! It's all in fun! News of Note: Quentin Tarantino's newest film Kill Bill Vol. 1 is in theatres now! A definite must-see for fans of films like Lone Wolf & Cub or Riki-Oh, Bruce Lee, anime and Asian pop culture! As a bonus, there's an animated segment which was produced by famed Japanese studio Production I.G., the talented people behind classics like Ghost in the Shell! Be prepared to see a lot of blood, but it's all in good fun! Got news for this section? Let me know via the message board! |

| The Anniversary Meeting was a resounding success! We consumed a grand total of 88 hot dogs, tons of chips, piles of cookies and 40 corn dogs! Wow! Of course, we had the annual showing of the classic Daicon Animations (the first things ever animated by Gainax!), and in addition to the regular scheduled programs, we also showed The Perfect Bride 11 (the stunning conclusion!), Ikki Tousen 1-2 (thanks to Pat D. and Chris L.!) and Daimos 2, a classic 70s anime, dubbed in the Phillipines (thanks to James H. for bringing that piece of insanity)! Thanks to everyone who brought their video game systems for all to play, and thanks also to Chris L. for bringing the big giant TV! Extra thanks to Chirs again for making the enormous cake, and to everyone who brought snacks and food! Be sure to show for next meeting, since the brand new Lupin III movie won the ballot! We'll also be starting an all-new Japanese drama to replace The Perfect Bride- this one is called Married at 20 (Hatachi no Kekkon), and features the same kind of romantic comedy, misunderstandings and tons of cute girls and guys all stuck living in the same house! (And you thought that just happened in anime like Tenchi Muyo or Ranma!) News of Note: I'm sure you've all noticed by now that Saint Seiya is being broadcast on Cartoon Network under the name Knights of the Zodiac! This classic show pioneered the team-of-beautiful-guys genre that spawned shows like Gundam Wing, Weiss Kreuz, and Samurai Troopers (aka Ronin Warriors). Check it out if you can, it's a classic! | HOORAY! Our internet problems are fixed! We apologize for the lack of updates to the SAAS Site- us SAAS officers were having computer and internet troubles from the end of July to just this last week. Now, everything is fixed, so updates can be made again! Yay! The last meeting went very well, despite having to lug the couches downstairs! Even though we had to work out, we still managed to have a good time (though the sudden thunderstorm during the showing of Dark Water was pretty creepy), and in addition to the regular scheduled programs, we also showed The Perfect Bride 10, Selfish Fairy Mirumo de Pon 1-2 (thanks to Pat D. and Chris L.!) and Daimos 1, a classic 70s anime, dubbed in the Phillipines (thanks to James H. for bringing that piece of insanity)! Thanks to everyone who brought their video game systems for all to play, and thanks also to Chris L. for bringing the big giant TV! Be sure to show for next meeting, since the hilarious Millionaire Cop won the ballot- AND it's the SAAS EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY! Eight years of SAAS fun and friendship, united by anime! News of Note: Well, the biggest news is the SAAS Anniversary! We will have the traditional giving away of free goodies (snagged at the San Diego Comic Con), plus, everyone is requested to bring some sort of snack items to share with everyone! (Chips, dip, cookies, crackers, sodas, etc.) We will be going to Sam's Club to get a cake and some barbecue fixings (plus paper plates, etc), and Pat D. will man the mini grill during the course of the meeting- so any donations of barbecue goodies (hot dogs, buns, hamburgers, side dishes, etc.) will be most appreciated! (We can eat A LOT when we get together. Feel free to help out!) Come on down and help us celebrate eight years of SAAS fun! In other news, Shaolin Soccer's American release has been pushed back yet again- but now because they are going to release it subtitled! Got news for this section? Let me know via the message board! |

| Oh No! Tax Season! Hope everyone is faring well on their taxes and may you all get many happy returns! The last meeting went very well, with a record high turnout! Tons of fun was had, and in addition to the regular scheduled programs, we also showed The Perfect Bride 6, Excel Saga 7-8 and Sailor Moon S 107! Many video game systems were set up, and this meeting also featured a return of that old SAAS fave, Magical Drop! Thanks to everyone who brought their video game systems for all to play, and thanks also to Chris for bringing the big giant TV! Be sure to show for next meeting, since the completely awesome Hero won as the main feature- Jet Li, Zhang Ziyi, Maggie Cheung and many more- plus absolutely gorgeous visuals! You won't want to miss it! News of Note: Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away took the Oscar for Best Animated Feature! Because of this, it is receiving limited release in theatres again! Hooray for anime! The Cowboy Bebop Movie has been showing at the Dobie Theatre in Austin, and if you get the chance, go see it! It's awesome! Bullet Proof Monk starring Chow Yun Fat is fast approaching, so don't miss that! In other club news, I am working on a library section for the website, but it's going slowly right now due to actual job stuff. Hopefully, it will be up soon. Got news for this section? | 2/15/03 Meeting News!

| Happy Cheap Chocolate Day, everyone! Not a lot of news this time, since I've been overworked (and sick) for what seems like forever. But the meetings have been going well, and we hope to see all of you at the next one! (The special "Double-Conan" meeting, apparently!) The last meeting was completely owned by the Happy Tree Friends DVD that I got for Xmas, and I'm still debating if it was a good idea to expose all your impressionable minds to such a thing.... News of Note: Jackie Chan's newest, Shanghai Knights, is in theatres currently. Check out Daredevil if only for the awesome preview of Chow Yun Fat's newest film, Bullet Proof Monk, which is based on the comic book of the same name. And of course, everyone knows by now that Spirited Away has been nominated in the Best Animated Film category of the Academy Awards. Let's all root for it! Club news: we have more tapes in the library, and the December Xmas Tape Purge went very well. I hope everyone enjoyed the tapes they got, and never fear, we'll be doing it again next December! Also, a slight change in the meeting schedules, in that now the first short feature wil be shown before the main long feature, so that more folks will be present to watch the big features. Nothing worse than missing the beginning of a movie. And, we all love PUCCA! Check out the animations on the site! Got news for this section? Let me know either via the message board or by email! |

| 11/15/02 Meeting News!

| Our October meeting went very well, considering there was enough candy on hand to induce diabetic shock in a horse! Miraculously, no one went completely hyper from that much sugar. ^_^; There was much videogaming going on at the meeting as well- including some Animal Crossing swapping on Bruce's GameCube! We also watched a bunch of bonus shows, including Sailor Moon Super S (thanks to Jamie!), The Sailor Moon Horror Double Feature (it's a tradition!), the Bang Ippongi Bishoujo Cosplay Specials (which were surprisingly full of crossdressers...), Princess Tutu (thanks to April!) and a bunch of old Opening & Closing Credits! The next meeting is right before Thanksgiving, so let's all be thankful that so much great anime is out there now- and give thanks to the Pioneers (and AnimEigos, and ADVisions, and Bandais, and...) who brought so much of it to us! Special thanks go out to Dave Sarran, who provided his DVD player, and his buddy Tom, who provided the copy of Waterboys for us to all enjoy at the October meeting! Thanks guys! Got news for this section? Let me know either via the message board or by email! |

| 3/20/02 New Meeting Place!
|
| Well, it had to happen- due to the incredible slowness of the management at the Autumn Brook Apartments with their renovations, we are officially moving our meeting place once again! For the forseeable future, we will be meeting at the Club House of The Mark at Parliament Apartments, located at 11721 Parliament Drive. The club house looks kinda of like a castle or Olde English manor, with a big round tower room and it is located directly to the right of a tennis court. (If you are facing the tennis court, with Parliament Dr. directly behind you.) To get there from the old meeting place intersection (Blanco and West Ave.), continue down Blanco past the HEB towards Churchill High School, until you see a Las Palapas on your right. (There will be a light.) Turn left at the Las Palapas light onto Parliament Dr. The Mark at Parliament will be on your right hand side. When you see the tennis court, you've found it. (There will be some parking by the tennis court, and other parking scattered around the complex. Whatever you do, DO NOT PARK IN ANY COVERED PARKING SPACE you may find on the property. You will be TOWED! Then we'll all point and laugh while you cry...) The new place is slightly larger, and has a bigger kitchen, and is a bit more expensive, but it should work for a while. DO NOT WRECK THE NEW PLACE. (Why? Because Pat and I live at those apartments and they will make our lives hell if it happens. And that will roll downhill....mu ha ha ha ha) So come on down to the new place, and we'll have a grand old time! One other thing- the new place doesn't open until 1:00 pm, so we will open the doors then. The programming for the meeting will start at 2:00 pm and the meetings will now run until 11:00 pm. Cool, huh? |
