Publisher of elementary mathematics books. We use multisensory approaches to educate with an inquiry style of teaching. How one teaches is as important as what one teaches. These books are about how to think mathematically using a variety of approaches which encourage creativity and discovery of the beauty in numbers.

"Unlike a lot of educational activities these are as much fun for me as for my daughter." ---Joyce Fetteroll, homeschool parent

Patterns in Arithmetic is a series of books for home school and classroom teachers about how to teach arithmetic using an inquiry method. A child's innate love of learning is encouraged through hands-on exploration, discovery, inventions, and the creation of models. Children learn about addition, subtraction, patterns, place value, and logic by building models, looking for patterns, playing games, making generalizations, and recording discoveries in ways that make sense to them at their own individual pace. These books are a collection of lessons that will help parents, teachers, and students become better mathematicians and to have students learn to think as mathematicians think.

A place where research on how children learn was the University of California, Irvine, a research and development lab school established in 1969. The math program developed and used successfully for over thirty years is based on the insights, ideas, and teachings of Professor Michael Butler. The heart of the Farm School philosophy is learning by discovery and having meaningful conversations between a student and a teacher. A strength of home schooling is being able to interact one-on-one and have these productive dialogs. The Patterns in Arithmetic series is now available to enrich the homeschool learning experience.
