BIOGRAPHY OF THE PEN GOD

PIER GUSTAFSON

My FOUNTAIN PEN life began rather late....

As a Senior in College I had heard a report on
All Things Considered
about a pen shop in Minneapolis.
It was a slow news day...
it was National Handwriting Day
(John Hancock's Birthday...Jan 23rd I think).
The owner, Fanny Friedman,
was talking about gold-nibbed pens.
I was hooked...even before entering her shop.
Upon leaving her place the first time I was a goner.

A year later she died and the shop was sold
to a couple who ran a mail-order business.
A few years after that I bought the business,
and moved it to Boston,
and became a pen-repairman from scratch.

In addition to collecting and repairing pens,
I write for PEN WORLD magazine,
and have promoted the
BOSTON PEN SHOW.

In addition to my being the
PEN GOD,
I...err...WE are also the
FONT TSAR.

.

.

OUR interest in lettering,
calligraphy and graphic design
was fostered early in life
but accentuated through
OUR collecting and using
these old fountain pens.

Take a look at what WE
have been up to at OUR

FONT TSAR

website.

Always the Calligrapher, never the Bride-Groom.

Here is another Occupation of mine.
Less glamorous than that of Pen God, or Font Tsar
...but someone has to do it.

Take a look at this site to see me as a CALLIGRAPHER and invitation designer.
