COLLECTORS CARTES de VISITES

PERSONALIZED BUSINESS-HOBBY CARDS

No matter your Profession or Passion...

...Make your calling card your "Ace in the Hole".

In the hypothetical samples above I have used the well-known symbol for "female" to denote the Doctor's specialization linked to the characteristic known best in a lady's pen. The Lawyer's card shows his interests plainly. The Indian Chiefs card resembles a woven blanket, the border adapted from the decorative band seen on the pens he admires.

Over the years I have been asked to design business cards for "real" (not hypothetical) pen collectors. I try to make each of the cards unique to the individual who orders them. Generally I like to include what they do from 9 to 5 (their profession) with what they think of 24 hours a day (their obsesssion: pen-collecting)

Here are examples of cards I created for pen collector-doctor COMBOs.

Otto's card was the first of the three, and the one which had most rigidity to the design...(Otto came prepared with a sketch). In addition to rendering his favorite pens a bit more carefully and devising the horizontal bars of black and white, I suggested the exchange of two words of text. Rather than
"Fountain Pen Collector and Infectious Disease Specialist"
he bacame a
"Fountain Pen Specialist and Infectious Disease Collector". See Otto at his spot in CYBERIA

OTTO'S PEN SIGHT

Dr. Hsu saw Otto's card and wanted one similarly proclaiming his dual interests. Here I suggested a picture of the labcoat pocket. (I think we recognize our fellow collectors more for the contents of their shirt-pocket than the features of their face). The text is contained within the I.D. tag he wears at the hospital. Steve hand-colors each of the cards. A bit of gold for the "51"s clip...a splash of blue in its diamond. The hand coloring, and the vertical format bring his card out of the ordinary.

Another M.D.-Pen Collector's card design resulted in this composition. Here I took the look of the brain and its cranulations as a point of departure. The pen draws the surface of the brain in calligraphic swirls, much in the way 19th century pen-masters drew decorative birds. This card-carrier states that his card attracts more attention at a pen show than the pens in his case...that might be true, for I discovered (quite late in the day) a bright red Esterbrook pastel pen (in his five-dollar box), which I promptly purchased.

You need not be a Doctor to get me to design a card for you. Lawyers, Candlestick-makers, and Indian Chiefs are equally welcome!

The cost of designing a camera-ready card is $150. more or less.
