Recent Activities:

- February 2007- The Peterborough YMCA commissioned Coach Pimm to measure the half marathon route to be used for the Annual YMCA  Vascular Health Half Marathon. The measurement and course were subsequently approved and certified by the Ontario Track and Field Association.

- Sept 14, 2006 - Friends of Toronto Track and Field, a non-profit community organization, announced today that it providing funding for Peter Pimm, one of Canada's most successful middle and long distance running coaches, to work with the University of Toronto's track and field program.

"Peter Pimm's mandate includes recruiting and coaching national calibre junior and senior athletes, working with the University of Toronto coaching staff to develop programs that will take advantage of a world-class facility at the new Varsity Centre, and developing outreach programs to encourage participation in the sport in Toronto elementary and secondary schools," said Andy Higgins, Director of Coaching at the Canadian Sports Centre, and a member of the "Friends" Board of Directors.

Bruce Kidd, Dean of U of T's Faculty of Physical Education and Health, sees that "this innovative partnership between the University and the 'Friends' will provide significant benefits to aspiring track athletes in the Greater Toronto Area. It reinforces our intention to utilize the excellent training and competition facilities that will be available in the new Varsity Centre by the spring of 2007 to foster the development of track and field both at the University and throughout the GTA."

"This partnership couldn't have been forged at a better time for the University of Toronto," said Liz Hoffman, Assistant Dean, Co-Curricular Education and Director of Athletics at the Faculty of Physical Education and Health. "The new Varsity Centre is truly a world-class facility that allows us to bring the best to our students and to a broader community of athletes with tremendous promise. Track and field has a rich history of excellence here at U of T, and this collaboration with the 'Friends', coupled with an incredible new facility, will carry on that tradition."

Carl Georgevski, U of T's Head Coach for Track and Field, who will be working closely with Pimm and FTTF, said, "This is an incredible opportunity for the youth of the City of Toronto and the entire track and field community, to develop and train athletes to local, provincial, national and Olympic levels at a world-class facility. Coaching is the key to any individual reaching their highest potential in their discipline. We are thrilled to have a coach with Peter's experience in developing athletes from their early teens through to Olympic competition, including Brendan Matthias, who was ranked 2nd in the world as a junior in 1500 metres in 1988, and then went on to compete at the Commonwealth Games and the Olympic Games."

According to Andy Higgins, "This initiative of FTTF has immense implications for middle and long distance running in Toronto. Peter Pimm's mandate is to work primarily with the U of T programs under the direction of Head Coach Carl Georgevski but it also encompasses coach and athlete development in the schools of Toronto. A community group such as FTTF funding a world-class coach who has a proven record in Toronto is unique, and of extreme significance. We are thrilled to be able to work in association with the University of Toronto, an institution that exemplifies the highest standards of education."

Peter Pimm commented, "I'm very excited to be involved in this unique opportunity. This initiative by the Friends of Toronto Track and Field is very important, because it is rare in Canada to have a private organization willing to financially support the challenge of developing athletes to the highest levels of competition, recognizing that such achievement is a long-term process, requiring several years."

Friends of Toronto Track and Field is a new not-for-profit organization with the objective of promoting and developing the sport of Track and Field in Toronto by supporting coaching, school and community outreach programs, and competitive opportunities for athletes.
