Roman Holiday Review
Every couple of weeks I will post a new review. I am planning to go in chronological order of her movies, and Roman Holiday is the first one I am doing. Next out will be Sabrina...if you are at all interested in possibly writing a review for a movie let me know: I will ask you to submit a copy for me to look over, and then I will more than likely post it when the time comes for that movie. Right now I am looking for someone who is interested in writing a review for War and Peace. Anyone interested please e-mail here - pigglebell@aol.com. Thankyou~ and now for the first of many reviews....
Roman Holiday
Starring
Audrey Hepburn...Princess Ann
Princess Ann,(Audrey), is exhausted of her role. Making public appearances everyday, giving interviews, and sleeping in fancy night dresses is not what she wants. All Princess Ann wants is to be a regular person for once. Maybe go dancing out on a barge, get a chic new haircut, and sleep in pajamas, just the top half! In an effort to try and break free of her princessly duties, she breaks free from the palace, and hitches a ride out into Rome. There is only one problem...she is under the influence of sleeping pills. As Princess Ann hides out in the back of a truck, it makes its way through the streets Rome. Startled by an abrupt stop, Ann wakes up and finds herself on a street corner. Sleepily she makes her way over to a bench on the sidewalk where she falls asleep. It is at this moment that the key interaction takes place in the story. Now entering the picture is Joe Bradley,(Peck), an American journalist. Coming out of a building after being shamed in a game of poker, he finds Princess Ann. Being the nice guy that he is, he scoops her up and takes her to a taxi, in hopes of finding out where she lives, so she can get home safely. Ann replies that she lives at the palace, which in turn makes Joe very puzzled and he thinks that she is drunk, after all she said she lives at the palace. He decides to join her for the ride, but when he can't find another place that she wants to go besides the castle, he takes her home with him. Ann finally regaining her true mind back, wakes up to find herself in Joe's apartment. What the princess doesn't know is that while she was asleep, Joe realizes that it was the Princess Ann that he had brought home. Being a journalist, Joe rushes off to his office and finds out form his boss what a one-on-one interview with the princess would be worth. Returning to the apartment, Joe finds that Ann is ready to leave, but he follows her. Once he meets up with her they decide to have a splendid sight-seeing day in Rome. All the time Ann is under the pretense that Joe is not a journalist. Joe though, knowing he has a good story, calls his friend (a photographer), over to "help" them see all of Rome. From there Joe and Ann go through all of Rome. They eat ice cream, visit the Mouth of Truth, and do all sorts of things that Princess Ann could not experience in her daily routine. As the day progresses Ann and Joe find themselves falling in love. Towards the end of the day, the king has sent out search parties, and Ann has to now be careful she does not get caught. I do not want to give away the ending, but I will say that Joe and Ann wind up wet in an attempt to escape the people looking for her. In a sad but memorable ending, one can not help but feel sorry for the princess. Also I think that everyone wants to know what will happen to Joe and Ann in the future, but that is up to your own imagination. I think that this was a well written movie, and the acting was superb! The story line allows you to sympathize with Joe and Ann, and feel their frustration in different ways, and near the end when they embrace, a sense of joy is overwhelming! How good was this Roman Holiday? I give it a 10!
