$13 Able to the Uttermost
$13.00 trade paperback 240 pages [CHS PEARL SP-216] A collection of twenty sermons by Spurgeon (described when released in 1922 as "Forgotten" sermons) that were NOT published in the original 63-volume complete set (1855-1917). When, as a young preacher in London, C. H. Spurgeon captured the ear of the multitude, he entered upon a ministry to which there is no parallel in the history of the Christian Church. For the long period of 38 years, until his lamented death in 1892, he exercised a marvellous influence drawing vast crowds to hear him, and reaching out to even larger numbers than his voice could address through the publication of his sermons & other works.
Beginning in 1855, there was issued regularly from the press a weekly sermon, which continued without interruption long after the preacher had been called to his rest and reward; for every week Mr. Spurgeon delivered at least three or four sermons or other addresses, and as every one of these was reported for publication purposes, the supply was far from being exhausted when the silvery voice was hushed in death.
(continued below)
The publication of the weekly sermon only came to an end on May 10th, 1917, and that was not due to the exhaustion of the material, but mainly because the war conditions brought about a host of difficulties. This volume was prepared from the remaining unpublished manuscripts after the series ceased [and originally printed in 1922]. The book is, therefore, entirely new, not one of the sermons having been published before.
That this volume will receive a warm welcome we do not doubt. The same freshness of presentation, the same insight into spiritual truth, the same fidelity to Christ and His Gospel, and the same appealing earnestness that mark all the utterances of this Prince of Preachers characterize the discourses that are here grouped together; and we send them forth in the confidence that the old Gospel has not lost its drawing power, and with the hope that the Lord will use them to the salvation of precious souls.

$5 According to Promise
$5.00 mass paperback 128 pages [CHS GEM SG-340] "Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better then they?" Matthew 6:26. Subtitled, "The Lord's method of dealing with His chosen people," Spurgeon shows this is on the basis of His own promises and the pledge of Himself to bring them to pass. After reading these chapters, you will have your faith challenged to lay hold upon the sure promises of God. This volume is a follow-up companion to Spurgeon's All of Grace.
"It is an eminently practical volume, the fruit of a ripe experience; as simple in its form as it is searching in its exposure of counterfeit religion; and we have no doubt that many will have reason to rejoice that they made its acquaintance. As Mr. Spurgeon remarks in one of his homely sentences, 'he who looked into his accounts and found that his business was a losing one was saved from bankruptcy.' " Christian Leader

[CHS GEM SG-329] "Where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." Romans 5:20. Subtitled, "An Earnest Word With Those Who Are Seeking Salvation by the Lord Jesus Christ." Of Spurgeon's many books, this is probably his all-time best-seller. Many editions by a great number of publishers and in several languages have gone forth, remaining in continuous demand. It was the first book ever published by D. L. Moody's Bible Institute Colportage Association and remains Moody Press's all-time best-selling title. The unabridged, unedited PILGRIM edition is reproduced directly from the original printing by Passmore & Alabaster (Spurgeon's publisher), also duplicating the cover art design. Excellent for the unsaved who are interested in knowing the way of salvation by grace. According to Promise is the "sequel" to this volume. We also keep the Spanish Language edition in stock (cover below).

"All of Grace is a small book with a great purpose. It seeks nothing short of the salvation of the reader. The language is plain to homeliness, like that of John Bunyan; and in its substance, as well as its form, it is just such a book as the author of 'Pilgrim's Progress' might have written had he been living in the England of our day." Christian Leader
"Every word is weighted with precious truth, and truth so simply and convincingly put that none can fail to understand God's way of salvation. Powerful illustrations, apt and original similes, and the one affectionate desire to win for Christ and to Christ, make it a gospel treasury of priceless worth." The Christian

However, all the servants of the Lord, in whatever capacity of service, may find help from these messages in the exercise of "an all-round ministry." $7 Around the Wicket Gate
$7.00 trade paperback 104 pages / Large Print, with 19 classic-art B&W Illustrations [CHS PEARL SG-301] "Enter ye in at the Strait Gate" Matthew 7:13. Subtitled, "A Friendly Talk with Seekers Concerning Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ," Spurgeon's intense interest in the salvation of souls is manifest in this volume "Millions of men are in the outlying regions, far off from God and peace; for these we pray, and to these we give warning. But just now we have to do with a smaller company, who are not far from the kingdom, but have come right up to the wicket gate which stands at the head of the way of life. One would think that they would hasten to enter, for a free and open invitation is placed over the entrance, the porter waits to welcome them, and there is but this one way to eternal life. He that is most loaded seems the most likely to pass in and begin the heavenward journey; but what ails the other men? Therefore, I am in terrible earnest to get my hesitating friends over the threshold."

$3 Baptismal Regeneration (refuted)
$3.00 trade paperback booklet 32 pages [CHS JEWEL SJ-402] Spurgeon spoke out for believer's baptism, in opposition to the doctrine of Rome and the Church of England. His messages sparked a controversy in England so great that the sermon on the "baptismal regeneration" heresy became Spurgeon's most famous and widely circulated sermon, "Of all lies which have dragged millions down to hell, I look upon this as being one of the most atrocious that in a Protestant Church there should be found those who swear that baptism saves a soul." The result of the controversy was Spurgeon's resignation from the Evangelical Alliance, although he returned later.

$7 The Beatitudes
$7.00 trade paperback 96 pages [CHS PEARL SP-214] A collection of eight sermons, on the portions of Christ's Sermon on the Mount known as the "BEATITUDES." Although these sermons are contained in the complete sermon series, it is convenient to have these messages in one volume. These are the only printed sermons from Spurgeon on the Beatitudes. For some reason, he was hindered from his purpose of preaching on each of them. His comment on each Beatitude, however, may be read in his commentary on Matthew: The Gospel of the Kingdom also published by Pilgrim.

$3 A Catechism (with Proofs)
$3.00 mass paperback booklet 28 pages [CHS GEM SG-346] Using the tried-and-proven method of catechizing, Spurgeon herein provides us with a useful tool for teaching and learning the Word of God and its cardinal doctrines. Valuable for use in Sunday Schools, Bible Schools, Training Unions, and other classes and groups. 82 Questions and Answers, with scripture references quoted in full (first published in 1864).
"I am persuaded that the use of a good Catechism in all our families will be a great safeguard against the increasing errors of the times, and therefore I have compiled this little manual from the Westminster Assembly's and Baptist Catechisms, for the use of my own church and congregation. Those who use it in their families or classes must labour to explain the sense to the little ones; but the words should be carefully learned by heart, for they will be understood better as the child advances in years. May the Lord bless my dear friends and their families evermore, is the prayer of their loving Pastor." C. H. S.

$7 C. H. Spurgeon's PRAYERS
$7.00 mass paperback 177 pages / Large Print [CHS GEM SG-349] "Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec." Hebrews 6:19-20. [Prayers offered during services at the Metropolitan Tabernacle, London England - published after his death] Dinsdale T. Young says, in the introduction, "Lovers of C. H. Spurgeon will delight in this treasury of devotion. It was memorable to hear this incomparable divine when he preached. It was often even more memorable to hear him pray. Who talked with God as Spurgeon did? His congregational prayers--and I heard many--are always echoing in my grateful ear. To those who never heard Spurgeon's glorious voice, these printed prayers will be valuable as suggesting his prophetic power at the Mercy Seat." Also included is a great sermon on prayer, "The Golden Key of Prayer."
"Believers in general will be enriched by this volume because Spurgeon's prayers were full of doctrine and encouragement from Scripture. But this book should especially appeal to the pastor whose pulpit prayers tend to become stale, repetitious, run-of-the-mill and virtually meaningless. Reading the prayers of great giants of the faith like Spurgeon aid in sharpening the prayers of those who pray publicly."
When D. L. Moody traveled 4,000 miles to hear Spurgeon, he reacted this way "What impressed me most was not the praise, though I thought I had never heard such grand congregational singing; it was not Mr. Spurgeon's exposition, fine though it was, nor even his sermon; it was his prayer. He seemed to have such access to God that he could bring down the power from heaven; that was the great secret of his influence and his success."
"A little bonus in this book are the pictures of Spurgeon, the Metropolitan Tabernacle and other buildings; it also includes a chronological summary of Spurgeon's life." The Baptist Bulletin (12/93)

$10 The Cheque-Book of the Bank of Faith
$10.00 mass paperback 370 pages [CHS GEM SG-316] "Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?" Matthew 6:30. Subtitled, "Being Precious Promises Arranged for Daily Use, with brief Experimental Comments." Contains a reading for each day of the year, but altogether distinct from Spurgeon's "Morning by Morning" and "Evening by Evening" devotional books. For short periods, for quiet meditations, this is an ideal volume in handy size. There is an Index to the scripture texts at the back of the book.
Spurgeon says, "A promise from God may very instructively be compared to a cheque payable to order. It is given to the believer with the view of bestowing upon him some good thing. It is not meant that he should read it over comfortably, and then have done with it. No, he is to treat the promise as a reality, as a man treats a cheque. He is to take the promise, and endorse it with his own name by personally receiving it as true. He is by faith to accept it as his own. He sets to his seal that God is true, and true as to this particular word of promise. He goes further, and believes that he has the blessing in having the sure promise of it, and therefore he puts his name to it to testify to the receipt of the blessing. How much more wonderful is the Bible to me now than it was a few months ago! In obeying the Lord, and bearing his reproach outside the camp, I have not received new promises; but the result to me is much the same as if I had done so, for the old ones have opened up to me with richer stores. God has given no pledge which he will not redeem, and encouraged no hope which he will not fulfil."
"To help my brethren to believe this, I have prepared this little volume. Oh, that I might comfort some of my Master's servants! I have written out of my own heart with the view of comforting their hearts. I know that, without his divine power, all that I can say will be of no avail; but, under his quickening influence, even the humblest testimony will confirm feeble knees, and strengthen weak hands. These daily portions are gathered from a more varied range of topics, and are all the more profitable because they deal with doctrine, experience, practice, and everything else. This is a sweetmeat of promise only, and it must not interfere with the fuller meals: nay, rather, I hope it will excite a desire for them. Our young ones ask no question about our will or our power, but having once received a promise from father, they rejoice in the prospect of its fulfillment, never doubting that it is sure as the sun. May many readers, whom I may never see, discover the duty and delight of such child-like trust in God while they are reading the little bit which I have prepared for each day in the year."
$7 Christ's Glorious Achievements
Published by Christian Focus Publications (U.K.) $7.00 mass paperback 143 pages
[CHS GEM SG-628] A selection of seven sermons on Christ overcoming Satan, the world, death, etc. To rely totally on Jesus is what every Christian aims for. To help you in this, C. H. Spurgeon has written a book highlighting the nature of what Jesus has done so that you may have a deeper awareness of the greatness of the one on whom you rely. Spurgeon says, "This little volume consists of seven discourses in honour of our Lord Jesus. Upon no theme is the true minister so much at home, and yet no subject more completely surpasses his ability. We love the subject, though we are lost in it. It is possible to describe all other things more or less accurately; but words are not capable of setting forth the redeeming grace and dying love of Jesus: yet we would fain be confined to this one topic for life, and be set free to speak of nothing else but our Beloved. As the harp of Anacreon refused all other themes and would resound 'love alone,' so would we gladly become for ever silent save only upon the famous deeds and adorable person of our Lord. 'Arms and THE MAN' we sing, but ah how feebly! Certainly we can never speak well enough of him whose name is Wonderful, for his work is honourable and glorious and his righteousness endureth for ever. We cannot content ourselves with anything which we can write concerning him, for, as the pen glides along, the heart glows yet more and more.
.
'My Christ he is the Lord of lords, He is the King of kings
He is the Sun of righteousness with healing in his wings.
My Christ, he is the heaven of heaven, My Christ what shall I call?
My Christ is first, My Christ is last,
My Christ is All in All!'
May the readers of these sermons be enabled by the Spirit of God in some degree to make increase in their knowledge of Christ. He alone is worth knowing; all other wisdom will fade away. Right well we know that none can reveal Christ to the heart but the Holy Ghost, and therefore with prayer for His divine enlightening we commit these pages to His condescending care, asking that they may prove to be good for edification. May the Lord Jesus be glorified by this little work." Thus humbly prays C. H. Spurgeon.

$7 CHRIST'S INCARNATION The Foundation of Christianity
$7.00 mass paperback 152 pages [CHS GEM SG-328] Subtitled, "Good Tidings of Great Joy." A small volume on a tremendously important theme, and Spurgeon thoroughly and convincingly presents the cardinal doctrine of the Christian faith that God was "manifest of the flesh" in Jesus Christ. Spurgeon's positive presentation of this truth deals an effective death-blow to any denial that Jesus Christ is indeed Deity. Spurgeon says, "There is more of God's glory and majesty to be seen in the manger and the cross, than in the sparkling stars above, the rolling deep below, the towering mountain, the teeming valleys, the abodes of life, or the abyss of death. Let us then give ourselves up to holy wonder, such as will produce gratitude, worship, love, and confidence, as we think of that great 'mystery of godliness, God manifest in the flesh.' "

$6 The Clue of the Maze
$6.00 mass paperback 128 pages [CHS GEM SG-324] We often hear the skeptic refer to "Honest Doubt" Spurgeon here presents the case for "Honest Faith." This volume is one of Spurgeon's most philosophical writings, dealing with the existence of God, faith in the unseen, the soul, cause of unbelief, how God is known, the Bible, science, and a primary emphasis on matters relating to faith.
Spurgeon says, "Doubt dims and chills the day. A fog is over all things, and men move about like Egypt's ancients when they felt the darkness. Oh that this mist would lift! The best we can hope is that the present gloom may pass away right speedily, and that the cloud may leave a dew behind, to nourish a more intelligent and unquestioning faith. In this clammy skepticism no race but the puniest can be nurtured. Men who are greatly good are hillborn, and love the fresh air of the mountains of truth. The paragraphs of this little book are not supposed to be an argument. It was not may aim to convince an opponent, but to assist a friend. How I have personally threaded the labyrinth of life thus far, may be of helpful interest to some other soul which just now is in a maze. I hope that by these pages some true heart may be assisted to 'fight his doubts and gather strength.' Let no man's heart fail him, for the prevalent skepticisms are but 'specters of the mind.' Face them, and they fly. A great poet let fall the expression, 'honest doubt.' How greedily it was clutched at! Modern unbelief is so short of the quality that it seized the label, and, in season and out of season, it has advertised itself as HONEST doubt. It was in dire need of a character. Feeble as our voice may be, we lift it on behalf of HONEST FAITH."
"Heartily do we thank Mr. Spurgeon for the work, and commend the book as just what is often required for a present; it will be found to be acceptable by the uncultured and the cultured as well." The Freeman

[CHS GEM SG-321] "Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord." Psalms 34:11. Subtitled, "A Book for Parents and Teachers on the Christian Training of Children," this is one of the most valuable books ever written on this subject. Although a great preacher to adults, Spurgeon was not a whit less impressive as a minister to youth. He built an orphanage for boys and girls and they were happy attendants at the Tabernacle services. The converts were quite numerous. Spurgeon's own twin sons became notable preachers, emphasizing the influence of their father over the young. For many years this volume has been used in university and seminary classes for instruction on the training and conversion of children.

$4 CONVERSION The Great Change, and Experiences After...
$4.00 mass paperback 48 pages [CHS GEM SG-326] Spurgeon tells the story of his own conversion to Christ, as a young teenager, on a cold and snowy January day in 1850 when he was "detoured" by the weather to the little Primitive Methodist Chapel on Artillery Street in Colchester. He further relates his immediate experiences after conversion, and this portion of the book should be a great source of spiritual insight and comfort to all new converts who read it. An excellent booklet for the young convert, the unsaved, and also for long-time Christians who desire to always keep in remembrance the early stage of spiritual experience. Both the simplicity and the sublimnity of conversion are felt as one reads this autobiographical material.

THE GREAT CHANGE CONVERSION
[continuing] Spurgeon says, "I have heard men tell the story of their conversion, and of their spiritual life, in such a way that my heart hath loathed them and their story, too, for they have told of their sins as if they did boast in the greatness of their crime, and they have mentioned the love of God, not with a tear of gratitude, not with the simple thanksgiving of the really humble heart, but as if they as much exalted themselves as they exalted God. Oh! when we tell the story of our own conversion, I would have it done with great sorrow, remembering what we used to be, and with great joy and gratitude, remembering how little we deserve these things. I was once preaching upon conversion and salvation, and I felt within myself, as preachers often do, that it was but dry work to tell this story, and a dull, dull tale it was to me; but, on a sudden, the thought crossed my mind, 'Why, you are a poor, lost, ruined sinner yourself; tell it, tell it as you received it; begin to tell of the grace of God as you trust you feel it yourself.' Why, then, my eyes began to be fountains of tears; those hearers who had nodded their heads began to brighten up, and they listened, because they were hearing something which the speaker himself felt, and which they recognized as being true to him if it was not true to them."
"Can you not remember, dearly-beloved, that day of days, that best and brightest of hours, when first you saw the Lord, lost your burden, received the roll of promise, rejoiced in full salvation, and went on your way in peace? My soul can never forget that day. Dying, all but dead, diseased, pained, chained, scourged, bound in fetters of iron, in darkness and the shadow of death, Jesus appeared removed, chains were snapped, prison doors were opened, darkness gave place to light. What delight filled my soul!--what mirth, what ecstasy, what sound of music and dancing, what soarings towards Heaven, what heights and depths of ineffable delight! Scarcely ever since then have I known joys which surpassed the rapture of that first hour."
EXPERIENCES AFTER CONVERSION
"Our faith at times has to fight for its very existence. The old Adam within us rages mightily, and the new spirit within us, like a young lion, disdains to be vanquished; and so these two strong ones contend, till our spirit is full of agony. Some of us know what it is to be tempted with blasphemies we should not dare to repeat, to be vexed with horrid temptations which we have grappled with and overcome, but which have almost cost us resistance unto blood. In such inward conflicts, saints must be alone. They cannot tell their feelings to others, they would not dare; and if they did, their own brethren would despise or upbraid them, for the most of professors would not even know what they meant. Even those who have trodden other fiery ways would not be able to sympathize in all, but would answer the poor troubled soul, 'These are points in which we cannot go with you.' Christ alone was tempted in all points as we are, though without sin. No one man is tempted in all points exactly like another man, and each one has certain trials in which he must stand alone amid the rage of war, with not even a book to help him, or a biography to assist him, no man ever having gone that way before except that one Man whose trail reveals a nail-pierced foot. He alone knows all the devious paths of sorrow. Yet, even in such byways, the Lord is with us, helping us, sustaining us, and giving us grace to conquer at the close."

$7.00 trade paperback 90 pages [CHS PEARL SP-218] In his "Greatest Fight in the World" Address in 1892, Spurgeon said, "I love men who love the covenant of grace, and base their divinity upon it; the doctrine of the covenants is the key of theology" [pg. 45].
