| SPURGEON |
...not only pastored the then-largest church in the world, he fostered hundreds of churches, founded an orphanage for 500 children, established a pastors' college, operated 21 mission halls, and led in other great ministries to the poor in London. During his lifetime, Spurgeon is estimated to have preached to 10,000,000 people. He also published more sermons and wrote more materials than any other English-speaking evangelical preacher of his day, or since. His 135 books (including the sermon series) [plus another 28 which he edited] are the equivalent of the 27 volume-9th edition Encyclopedia Britannica! Spurgeon typically read 6 books per week and could remember what he had read and where even years later. His own personal library contained 12,000 volumes 1,000 printed before 1700. The LIBRARY, 5,103 volumes at the time of its auction, is now housed at William Jewell College (Liberty, Missouri USA).
Before he was 20, Spurgeon had preached over 600 times. By 1865, his SERMONS sold 25,000 copies every week. Translated into more than 25 languages, they stand as his greatest literary achievement. Spurgeon once said he counted 8 sets of thoughts that passed through his mind at the same time... while he was preaching. The theme for his Sunday morning sermon was usually not chosen until Saturday night. For an average sermon, Spurgeon took no more than one page of notes into the pulpit, yet he spoke at a rate of 140 words per minute for 45-55 minutes. By accepting some of his many invitations to speak, he often preached 10 times per week and worked 18 hours per day.
Long before today's Mega-churches, nearly 6,000 people crowded twice each Sunday to hear Spurgeon; in an Age of Great Preachers, WHY did he rise above them all?
The METROPOLITAN TABERNACLE PULPIT is C. H. Spurgeon's original unabridged, unedited 57-Volume sermon series (originally published by Passmore & Alabaster, Spurgeon's publishers, who were also members of his church). Stenographically recorded by his peerless and untiring private secretary, Mr. J. W. Harrald, each sermon was released weekly as a "Penny Pulpit" single publication, a popular method of sermon distribution in the 1800's. It was not only the best-selling "Penny Pulpit" of that time, but the yearly volumes of these sermons out-sold and continue to out-sell any other sermon publications.
When C. H. Spurgeon DIED in 1892, a sufficient supply of still unpublished Sunday and Thursday evening sermons were available so as to continue publishing the annual volumes for another 25 years(!), only to be cut short by the first World War early in 1917. By that time, few unpublished sermons remained yet 20 more original sermons were printed in 1922 under the title... ABLE TO THE UTTERMOST [by Pilgrim].
ALL other Spurgeon sermon sets are simply 'taken' from this Original Series. Many ministers and scholars agree with the opinion of Dr. Wilbur M. Smith: "The NPSP-MTP is the greatest sermon set in the English language!" The late B. H. Carroll, founder of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, said these sermons constituted a "Complete Body of Systematic Theology." W. Robertson Nicoll said the sermons were a "Theological Library."
The NEW PARK STREET PULPIT consists of the first 6 volumes preceding the 57 volumes of the MTP. It covers the years of Spurgeon's ministry at New Park Street Chapel, 1855-1860 becoming pastor in 1854 at the young age of 19! He was an instant success in London, preaching with blessed power to the conversion of thousands and the building up of a ministry the like of which merited him the title of "The Prince of Preachers!" While his public ministry at the Tabernacle (built in 1861) was attended constantly by thousands, his words via the printed page has been even more far-reaching. For quantity of titles and their numerical output, he has no equal! [see Volume Prices furthur below]
Every volume has an Index of sermon Titles and Text.

Also, in 1980 Pilgrim produced a separate clothbound COMPLETE INDEX of titles and texts for all 63 volumes, available for $13. And previously, Spurgeon's publishers released a special SUBJECT INDEX [for Volumes 1-44 content of the NPSP-MTP] also clothbound (from Pilgrim), available for $7, and includes a Textual Index for all of the sermons up through volume 60.

Pilgrim Publications has been reprinting the Complete Set of sermons since 1969. After 11 years, the last volume was printed in 1980. These MTP volumes are continually reprinted in a high-quality BLACK Clothbound Binding [with 30 volumes also available in the clothbound Gold Binding]. Unfortunately, Pilgrim no longer reprints volumes in the Collector's Gold Binding as the special gold metallic cloth cover is now too expensive. With both color bindings combined, currently 53 of the 57 volumes are available with usually 2 or 3 vols. reprinted annually. We are dedicated to keep reprinting these great sermons for years to come!
From 1855, unless otherwise indicated the Sunday morning sermon was published weekly (and bound in the yearly volumes as seen below). After his death in 1892, many previously unpublished Sunday and Thursday evening sermons appear in Volumes 38 thru 63 (years 1892-1917). Some were delivered during the New Park Street years (1855-60), but not previously printed (as there are no duplicates). Each volume of sermons has a distinct and unique COLOR Jacket Cover, with ample testimonials and biographical information.
