With energy, promptitude, and zeal he would perform the will of God,

but he needed more life and liberty from the hand of God.

"When thou shalt enlarge my heart." SPURGEON: Yes, the heart is the master; the feet soon run when the heart is free and energetic. Let the affections be aroused and eagerly set on divine things, and our actions will be full of force, swiftness and delight. God must work in us first, and then we shall will and do according to his good pleasure. [Philippians 2:13, 1 Corinthians 2:12] He must change the heart, unite the heart, encourage the heart, strengthen the heart, and enlarge the heart, and then the course of the life will be gracious, sincere, happy and earnest; so that from our lowest up to our highest state in grace we must attribute all to the free favour of our God. We must run; for grace is not an overwhelming force which compels unwilling minds to move contrary to their will: our running is the spontaneous leaping forward of a mind which has been set free by the hand of God, and delights to show its freedom by its bounding speeds.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892)

...was a noted British Baptist minister who preached to throngs of souls at the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London, England (which seated 6000 people). Greatly blessed by the Holy Spirit, his success and worldwide popularity were due in large measure to a genius intellect, natural gift of oratory, and thoroughly biblical expository messages. Spurgeon's many writings and brilliant sermons are still widely published today, testifying to his timeless appeal.
** "The work done by C. H. Spurgeon cannot die. 'I beseech you,' I once heard him say, 'to live not only for this age, but for the next also. I would fling my shadow through eternal ages if I could.' ...in the holy scripture of 1st Corinthians 1:23-24 — "But we preach CHRIST CRUCIFIED, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God."
