Pipewriter - Bagpipe Music publisher and player for the home PC

The professional bagpipe music publication software for your home PC

Overview

The Pipewriter is a software package which allows you to play (Sample) and professionally publish bagpipe music on your home PC (or Apple Mac with Virtual PC). Music is entered using the simple to learn PIP scripting language which not only reduces the time taken to define the music, but also minimises the disk space required to store music. In tests, the average line of music can be defined in .PIP code in around a minute by a proficient user of the system.

Once your tunes have been stored in PIP format on your PC, the Pipewriter software will catalogue them and make them available to you sorted by title (that's full title, not file name), style, timing or arranger/composer.

The playback facility gives you full control over the speed, pitch, sound style and volume of the chanter and 3 drones and will also let you create sound files (.mid) that can be played back on most sound capable PCs without the need for Pipewriter.

Using the quick reference guide that comes with purchased copies of the Pipewriter you will quickly be able to add the following bagpipe music constructs to your music:

  • regular notes including joined, dotted and double dotted notes
  • grace notes including doublings taorluaths, throws, birls and grips
  • commented sections of music spanning several notes, a bar, or even several lines of music
  • more advanced attributes such as linked staves and triplets; and
  • although the Pipewriter has a library of grace-notes that can be called up with only 2 key strokes, there is the facility to define your own custom notes which can be made up of any number of notes.

Don't listen to us... here's what some of the people that have already purchased Pipewriter have to say…

Just a note of thanks for the upgrade. As a new piper of only 2 years, I find your program invaluable. Keep up the great work.

Having spent several hours working on the band's tunes and converting them via Pipewriter I am very impressed and have picked up the PIP code surprisingly quickly for a 'thickie' , my Pipe Major is also most impressed with the finished product, keep up the good work and thanks for the Email.

I have no problem giving credit where credit is due. You have an excellent product here. I think back on all of the hours that I spent scripting tunes into BMW format where my time should have been put to better use on the practice chanter. I purchased PIOB and that was a significant upgrade to the better as far as scripting tunes goes. I then purchased Pipewriter and I have not used either of the other two since.

My Computer is a Power Macintosh G3 with Mac OS-8. I am using Virtual PC V 1.0 made by Connectix Corp. and running Microsoft Windows 95. It works fantastically with the Pipewriter program. I would highly recommend it for the Mac users that want to try out your program and I have also recommended your program to some IBM users.

The Pipewriter program I bought when you were out here is BRILLIANT. I've re-written quite a lot of tunes using it and it does a fantastic job. Hope to hear from you soon.

So far the upgrade seems to be working well. I'll keep you posted as I use it more. It's great to finally have sound and I also like the metronome feature. New version is cool, especially like the playing ability...makes checking work much easier. This is a great program, and appears to be getting better with every release.

I would like to thank you for all your help with this excellent program. It did a brilliant job of my presentation music, once I got used to it. I have recommended this program to a number of people. Whether they are smart enough to get it remains.
