Phil
and Bernadette flew in from California and met us in Youngstown. For this
leg of the journey, Al Belknap replaced Peter Hopper
on sound. Peter rejoined us in LaSalle IL in time for the EMERGING recording
session. The Brown Derby broke down seven times on our way from Youngstown
to St. Louis and finally died. The heavy equipment (heavier than your
average bread loaves) and the searing July heat took it's final toll on
the old bread truck. We experienced 95-105 degree highs in Missouri and
Nebraska in that stretch. We purchased a new (blue) 1967 International
truck for the September tour and it was dubbed "Blue Sky". Sometime
before July we also purchased
an old black Cadillac limosine. It looked luxurious, but it was hot and
broke down a lot. For the September tour, Alan Garms took over as master
of the sound board. We rented a large motor home so we could keep the
vehicle caravan down to two vehicles for the Southern swing. Phil McHugh
traveled with us for some of the dates starting in September.

.Because
of some cancelled comments, we hung out in San Antonio for a few days
in late November. John Michael Talbot joined us for our drive to Houston,
and was stranded with us when the Blue Sky broke down. The day of our
concert in Dallas, it was warm enough to run the air conditioner. The
next day, we needed heat! Phil K was off again, planning leave Dallas-Fort
Worth and fly to California, while we high-tailed it back to New York
via the Interstate. PK was involved in an automobile accident on the way
to the airport, but was able to get off on a later flight. The rest of
us were greeted by a blizzard when we crossed the NY State line.
