Pocket Guide to Pediatric Drugs - Analgesics, Oral
3.3 - ANALGESICS, OTIC (Rx)
(Antipyrine & Benzocaine in Glycerin - Auralgan)

INDICATIONS:

  • Relief of the pain and inflammation of acute otitis.
DOSE:
  • Fill ear canal, 3 - 4 drops, 3 - 4 times daily, up to every 1 - 2 hours as needed.

SUPPLIED:

  • AURALGAN: Antipyrine and Benzocaine in Glycerin - 15 ml dropper bottle.

COST:

  • Inexpensive, generically available product.

CAUTIONS:

  • Not for the treatment of infection.
  • Should not be used when ear drum is perforated.

COMMENTS:

  • Patient should gently insert a cotton plug moistened with medication in the ear to ensure retention.
