Canadian Standard Microchip

AVID "Canadian Standard" Microchip

The AVID (FECAVA/ISO) injectable microchip features a custom integrated circuit coil and capacitor hermetically sealed in biocompatible glass containing a programmed identification number. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected under the skin of an animal, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides permanent, positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your animals against loss or theft.

Once injected under the skin of an animal, the AVID microchip is encased by a thin layer of protein which anchors it in place for the rest of the life of the animal. It does not pass through or out of the body. The microchipitself has no power supply to replace or moving part to wear down. Therefore, it can be expected to last for decades - well beyond the life span of the animals.

The computer memory in the AVID microchip contains a unique number - no two animals will ever have the same number. A radio signal is used to read this number through the skin of an animal. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that the identifying number is read accurately. This all takes place in less than .04 seconds.

The Microchip

SAFE, PERMANENT & POSITIVE: The microchip is constructed of non-toxic components hermetically sealed in biocompatible glass. It is designed with an operating life exceeding 25 years. It is passive in nature, requiring no batteries. After implantation a small layer of connective tissue forms around the microchip, preventing migration.

TAMPER-PROOF & UNIQUE: Each microchip is uniquely coded by a computer controlled process that ensures no duplication. This code cannot be altered.  Over a trillion unique combinations are possible. Because of the random process, specific numbers or groups of numbers are not available.

USABLE IN ALL SPECIES OF ANIMALS: The microchip is about the size of a pencil lead and is therefore suitable for injection into virtually all animals. This includes parakeets and up to the size of a Killer Whale. Extensive testing, more than ten years, in a wide variety of animals has shown no adverse side effects to the health of the animal.

EASY IMPLANTATION: Implantation is no more difficult than a routine injection when performed by a Veterinarian. It takes less than a minute including preparation. Once implanted, the microchip requires no further attention during the animals’ life.

UNBIASED: Most forms of identification require subjective interpretation by the observer - coloring, tattoo, marking, etc. The code generated by the microchip is read by the scanner and is not subject to interpretation. Consequently, error is eliminated.

HUMANE: The microchip is implanted with a specially designed, pre-sterilized needle, causing no more discomfort than a routine injection. All implants are performed in a specific site location, usually subcutaneously, which assures virtually no pain. The physical ability and performance of the animal is not impeded; there is no scarring or disfigurement. Most animals are unaware that they have received an injection!

Animals of any age can be injected with the AVID microchip. Puppies and kittens can be identified during their initial vaccine series. Birds, horses and exotics can be identified at any time. The value of implanted animals is over $100,000,000.00

AVID Scanners

AVID scanners can read all compatible microchips as follows:

All AVID Microchips (Encrypted and Unencrypted)

BMDS/DESTRON-Fearing, Infopet #1, Anicare Life Chip, Anitech, IDI/Destron 400 kHz, IDI/Destron 125 kHz, Biosonic, Schering-Plough

Canadian Animal Network-Internet Adoption Program

AVID Canada in conjuction with Heinz Canada, Pet Plan Insurance and Pets Quarterly are pleased to sponsor Canada's first Internet Adoption Program located in the CAN (Canadian Animal Network) web site.

CAN has created the Internet Adoption Program to serve the needs of Animal Shelters and Humane Societies. The CAN Adoption Program will permit any person looking for a dog or cat to determine if a potential pet is available in a shelter close to where they live. CAN's data base driven program will enable a person to search for a new pet simply by filling in a few boxes of information on their home computer. If you have an internet account, simply point your WEB browser (CAN recommends Netscape) to: http://www.pawprints.com.

Canadian Kennel Club (CKC)

The CKC has switched to AVID and now distributes AVID products for "purebred" dog breeders only. The CKC accepts microchip identification for CKC registration of all purebred dogs in Canada.

Horse Associations

Horse associations in Canada and the USA have begun utilizing the microchip technology as a means of identifying and registering horses within their unique associations. Please check with individual associations for complete information pertaining to their registeration procedure.

PETtrac

PETtrac is a worldwide computerized tracking system for companion animals identified with the AVID Microchip. The International master databank is located in Norco, California, USA. The Canadian databank is located in Calgary, Alberta. All Canadian data is downloaded into the master databank  in California (backed up information system), as well as the CVMA in Ottawa, Ontario.

When a chip is injected into the animal, the microchip number is entered in the patient records and is also recorded on a PETtrac Registration form which is forwarded to AVID. Each animal is registered in the PETtrac database, using the clinic as a tracking site. To ensure constant access to these records, AVID not only stores data at its in-house computer centre, we go even further.

AVID supports this extensive network with a proprietary pet tracking database and backs up that system with a unique recovery program through 8 different professional state-based Veterinary Medical Associations. No other identification system on the market offers you such complete service.

The safety and protection of animals is our first concern therefore AVID Canada will retrieve any information to implement a safe recovery for any animals whether it be on our PETtrac recovery service or any other recovery service. AVID will register any of its competitors microchips on the PETtrac database.

PETtrac World Wide Recovery Service 1-800-338-1397 is answered 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with a live operator. Over 4,000,000 microchips implanted with over 25,000. documented recoveries.
