Keeping Track and the
Polarwatch Expedition
is a joint venture between Robertsbridge Community College and
the Royal Marines. On 3rd March 1998, Sgt. Sean Chapple and Cpl.
Alan Chambers started to make an unsupported walk to the North Pole,
which is being tracked by students at the College. During the Easter holidays, eight students from the College were the first ever
school party to visit the Magnetic North Pole - as well as being hosted by the Royal Marines base camp in Resolute Bay.
First photo from base camp - Sean and Alan leaving Ward Hunt Island. We have reduced the size of this picture because of downloading time problems to the index page. Click on the image for the full size version. Latest news - if you have not already heard, is that Sean and Alan have sadly abandoned their North Pole trek for reasons of safety, because of battery failure.
