History of English Translations and Translators Samuel Bagster and Sons published many theological documents in the 19th Century, including Bagster's 1841 The English Hexapla. Almost the first 60 pages of Bagster's Hexapla constitute a history of the English translations of the Bible. Several online bookstores offer copies of Bagster's History for $35, and copies of the entire Hexapla run in the $250 range; original Bagster Hexaplas sell for $1500 or more. Guests of Richard's Electronic Kingdom can now freely access Bagster's History at no charge! (His majesty first published this text on Usenet in 1999, two years before publishing it on the Web.) Special fonts used in the document on this site include SPionic, a public domain Greek font, and CAC Valiant. The SPionic font can be downloaded from http://www.aarweb.org/fonts/default.asp , though other Greek fonts should display most of the Greek text correctly, too. The Spionic and CAC Valiant fonts can be downloaded from the Kingdom. Notice: I discovered when I bought a copy of Samuel Bagster's English Hexapla that there is more than one version of the History. The version I bought contains 160 pages of text; the version I have posted here appears to be an abridged version. I have written to the copyright holders of the version I bought, but they have not replied. I am unaware of any copyright that could lay claim to the material I have posted.
