bdayclwn.gif Free Greeting Card Websites
by BPatter789

A few days before my 60th birthday, I received a virtual greeting card from Ed Cohen, Cohanim.  The same silly clown ====> was doing these ridiculous jumping jacks as if he never gets tired.  Click fast enough on your up arrow and you might make the clown pause in midair.  What an utterly stupid card.  No "Hope your arthritis took a vacation" or anything like that.  But I loved that silly card, and I love Ed for sending it to me.

Why?  Because it really is the thought that counts.  And, yes, it does flatter to know that someone cares enough to take the time and effort to send a pleasant thought your way.  When you can't be there in person you can telephone.  But a greeting card -- especially one where you had to make choices over pictures, words, music -- is more like a gift.  Like a bottle of glue, they help to make and preserve bonds, to paper over aches and hurts, to say "I Love You" in a personalized way.

So, the websites featured here are a bunch of glue pots, waiting for you to click on an icon and brighten someone's day.  Send a friend a card if you have an E-mail address.  There are greetings designs for all ages, religious and secular holidays and for any occasion. Bring a smile to someone's day.  smiley1c.gif

Check Out these Greeting Card sites

Awesome Cyber Cards based in Minnetonka, MN,
is awesome and getting awesomer.  They have many topical, Christian, Jewish, and secular designs.  Even a roaring Year of the Tiger card, and 19 Mother's Day selections.  They also offer a very few deeply discounted books.  It is a fun site to browse with a child, with much to laugh at.  http://www.marlo.com/card.htm
mimiegg1.jpg   Mimi's Cyber Kitchen is a food-centered site.  Their own
greetings designs include Jewish/Yiddish recipes.  So, what's
an Easter egg doing in a kosher kitchen?  Ahhh, the secret is
crosscultural understanding.  There are lots of recipes at this
website, and tremendous links to other good places to visit. They also sell or recommend American Greeting Cards (the kind you mail), books, food and health-related items.  There are special resources for diabetics.  Dig into their family pages and you will find links to intellectual material that are simply incredible.  http://www.cyber-kitchen.com/holidays/
bluemtn2.gif Blue Mountain Arts of Boulder, CO, is a class act.  They offer excellent designs, with lots of animation and music.  Among themes offered are those for Christian, Jewish, Islamic and Native American interests. They conduct poetry contests (read the page "About Blue Mountain Arts") and sponsor the annual Colorado Shakespeare Festival.  http://www.bluemountain.com
gologo2.jpg   GO Greetings is a multilingual website having an easy-to-use
walk through selection process.  They have Jewish, Chinese and
Islamic motifs among the options for religious greetings.  There
were 10 Mother's Day selections.  The site has "sponsor's" ads on every page, but they are not troublesome.  http://www.gogreet.com/
eidgreet.jpg Digital Greeting Cards  is a service catering especially, but not exclusively, to South Asian interests.  This multilingual site hosts 14 languages and contains a very large library of quality illustrations.  They have 10 Mother's Day designs and lots of others for Asian holidays such as Tamil New Year, Eid, Holi, Diwali & Guru Nanak's Birthday.  http://www.samilan.com/cards/digicards.html

The  postcard.gif website is really a nice greetings
source. It has a great topical variety and quite a bit of music
to select from.  There is a large, well-organized list of topics
which includes Jewish, Christian and secular holidays.  Four
Mother's Day designs were, like most of the artwork, of a
mundane, traditional nature.  I found their ever-present and animated advertising to be a distraction.  http://www.postacard.com/

pacprod1.gif PacProd Animated Greetings is a part of a nice web-shopping venue that includes a number of on-line gift shops.  Their greeting cards (like the one Cohanim sent me) are a sophisticated blend of colorful pictures, animated artwork, sounds and music.  Like a few others, their system allows you to supply your own photo or artwork if you have a personal website.  At the time I visited the site holiday motifs were for Easter and Passover.  http://www.pacprod.com/card.htm
123logo.gif   123 Greeting Cards   is a well organized website with many
categories or topics.  It also provides, for each topic, quite
substantial listings of links to other websites.  One drawback is the very small typesize used in many places.  http://easter.123greetings.com/
redtulip.jpg Virtual Florist   is a personal favorite of mine, ever since RuthZ21030 sent me a floral thank you note, my first ever online greeting card. All the designs are of flowers or party favors, but ther are very nice and the finished greeting card is very professional.  Use this site when flowers say it best.  They offer the standard FTD service if you wish to send real flowers.  http://www.virtualflorist.com/
icentral.jpg  is a database of Greeting Card website information.  It is
very large and well organized.  Short descriptions are
provided for each website listed, and it is possible to visit may sites in a a few minutes.  Since there is no duplication of listings (unlike the search results at Yahoo! and other search services), you can find what you want with less effort.  Some of the best Greeting Card websites are listed here:
hallmrk3.jpg Hallmark Cards   is a very large (1,700 cards) service
of the traditional greeting card company.  Their offerings
may be the largest of any individual website, with dozens
of traditional, colorful Mother's Day offerings.  However, they charge $2.50 for animated cards (and they also offer floral, candy and other gift deliveries).  A comprehensive website.  http://www.hallmark.com/
